| This may be a silly question... Do yorkies have dander? If they are considered hypoallergenic, then they must not have dander. Because it's the dander that makes them allergic. Right? I've been up since 4:30 this morning, so please excuse me if I'm just having a moment!

| I don't know if they have dander or not, but some people are still allergic to them. I hope that helps

| I don't know about "dander" but they can get "dandruff". Some yorkies are very sensitive to certain foods and can have allergies which cause dandruff. If they have dandruff you'll see these little white flakes that seem to get all over there fur when you brush them. Jaden used to have Dandruff but since switching his food to one without corn in it he's doing wonderful! |

My furkids Donating Member | I'm not really sure about that! But, I can tell you this...My daughter's boyfriend has horrible allergies..when they are at my other daughters house (she has 2 big goldens) he stuffs up as soon as he walks in the door and ends up so stuffed up he can't breath and has to leave...when they come here he is fine! and you know how friendly our little ones are! They get in his face and sleep on him...he has never had a reaction to them.

| I don't know the answer, but I have a TERRIBLE allergy to cats and milder allergy to dogs. Shelties, Collies and the like might as well be cats. Labs and Goldens still make me itch and sneeze. Shih-tzu's and Yorkies don't bother me as long as they stay clean. So I don't know if it's the fact that I give my Yorkies a bath once a week or so or if it's because they don't shed. I can also say that my trainer's labs do not bother me as much as any other random lab, because they are fed great food and they are clean. I still can't stick my face in their fur like I can with my Yorkies though. I can hardly visit a house with shedding dogs, but I can let my monsters sleep in my bed. I'm also curious to know why!

| Well I just wondered because a lady told me that she was very allergic to Yorkies and even more allergic to Shih Tzus. I guess I thought that because they don't have an undercoat that they wouldn't have dander. I've even read that somewhere. Just because I read it, doesn't make it true though.

| Allergies to cats are generally due to the protien in their saliva. They lick themselves all the time, then when that protien dries it breaks off into billions of microscopic bits and flys thru the air that we breath causing sneezing and such. Maybe it's the same with dogs who lick themselves a lot. If you brush the dog or cat each day, and bathe regularly, then it will cut down on the allergies. |

| All dogs have dander. Some less then others. Thats why the ones that have very little, they call hypo allergenic. I have Asthma & have been going to specialist for years. They tried to talk me out of getting a dog, but I have always wanted one. We have 3 now. I do sneeze here & there. My eyes will water if their up around my face in bed at night. I do take medication for this. It's not as bad if it were a dog that shed, or getting around a cat. But yes, the allergies are there. I do wash my hands a lot after handling them. If I didn't & rubbed my eyes, they would itch & swell.

| From what I understand, dander actually comes from their mouths. It's the residue that is left on the fur after they lick themselves. |
