| Neighborhood Advice I really need some advice. I live in a smaller town, and people are always letting their dogs off leash. It drives me insane because I'm always worried about the dog running into the road or charging me, ect. So today my fiancee and I were out walking the dogs.. all on their seperate retractable leashes *I use a coupler for two only when I'm alone*... so anyhow..there's a chi around the corner never on a leash... it's run after me w/my dogs a few times. Today.. we had all three and we saw the chi out.. shortened up the leashes so that they were close to us and kept going. The chi runs out snarling and barking it's little head off.. and it was NOT friendly. So then the guy proceeds to let the little dog just keep jumping around my dogs growling at them!! Finally the chi snapped at my Bentley! I WAS SO MAD!! And the guy just laughed and thought it was funny apparently.. then he goes.. watch out our you'll get eaten to his dogs. The chi was BIGGER than Emma and Tallulah and Bentley maybe had 3 lbs on him. I was so angry.. I just was like let's go Sean. I don't want this to happen all summer.. because I will NOT allow my dogs to be put in danger over someone who refuses to leash their dogs. Should I just call AC and put in a complaint? This doesn't seem like the kind of guy that will listen to me.. but I also don't want to make enemies. |

| Yes you definitely should notify them.. better to be safe than sorry! Or if that doesn't work then maybe go into a different neighborhood to walk in? Good Luck! |

| There are dog owners a couple houses down from us who let their small dogs get loose in the neighborhood and they torment everyone- pets and people! We have called AC many times and it seems the dogs are back home by the time AC comes around so there is never any resolution . I would say stay on the safe side and steer clear of that dog and owner. |

| Not only would I call and report THIS guy and anyone else that you see running loose, but I personally would go for a walk w/ only one of your Yorkies next time. And when that little booger is running loose and charges your little guy, scare the hell out of that Chihuahua. It's not fair to the Chihuahua to be loose because he sounds like a little a$$ and is going to do that to the wrong dog one of these days and the owner doesn't sound like the brightest bulb. And if the guy is there when you scare this little one off, maybe he'll be a little more aware of his problem dog and care enough to keep him away from YOU if nothing else....like keeping him from a car or aggressive large dog shouldn't be enough incentive! I HATE owners and dogs like this...... |

| OH MY....it is not the chihuahua's fault. I would report this foolish owner..not only for you and your pups, but for the poor pup who is not being taught how to properly approach others. He has no idea how to act because he has an idiot for an owner. It just turns my stomach that people ruin pups like this. |

| Thanks for the advice guys. I was so upset. As a little dog owner myself, I'm offended when people act as if just because their dog is small it can growl, charge people, bite, ect. No matter the size it is still a dog, and should have the same precautions as a bigger dog! I train my dogs so much and am so corteous of others, that I was just so taken back by his attitude. He seemed to think it was funny that his chi was being aggressive and protecting his house or something. So irritating |

| Take along a spray bottle of something nasty smelling so if the dog charges you or your yorkie you can spray him. After his owner has to wash his pet a few times, maybe he'll keep him penned up more.

| Felina, that's one of the ideas that I had in regards to scaring the little one off...glad you said it though! This owner sounds like a real character. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I live in a country area. The county I live in also does NOT have a leash law. I will not take mine for a walk alone. I am thinking about getting some pepper spray to carry with me.

| WV, on dogs, or people actually....when you use the pepper spray BE SURE to use it in small spurts. If you load them up w/ it, the base has to have time to evaporate or disolve before the chemical actually takes effect. Not something you want when you need an immediate reaction from it! Vinegar isn't a bad idea to use as an alternative. |

| I would definitely report them for the safety of your dogs and the safety of his dogs. You have a right to be able to walk your dogs without fear of being bothered by another dog. |

| I live in the country and we have a law against animals running at large. In fact one neighbor got cited for letting his ducks and chickens run at largel..LOL That's another story. Anyway there is a young black lab that come up and tries to play with my guys through the fence. He is bending the top of my fence down, plus he is not neutered and I'm afraid for my girls. Not that he could do anything, but he could hurt them. This summer I am going to try to catch him, he seems friendly, I think he's quite young. then I'll call animal control to come and get him. |

| The owner didn't seem responsible. The chi seemed 'brave' when your dogs were around, what would that owner do if his dog ran snarling and barking to a big breed dog like a pit or shepherd? I bet he wouldn't be laughing then...

Great idea!!! I never thought that... and the vinegar idea is great too... Here we are not allowed to buy peper spray, and most of people walk their dogs unleashed (ugggh!!! )...even the big ones!!! I get so mad! Because I have to defend my babies from these other dogs that approuch in a not friendly way... | |
