| Retained teeth! I am so embarassed, and sad. I went with my dog for a Kennel Cough shot and asked the vet about Pepper's teeth. He has 2 baby fangs (??) retained. I look into his mouth and thought that's the way dog's teeth should look like (shame, I thought retained baby teeth stay in the inside, Pepper's are right next to adult ones). He has one (the biggest one) on each side. Oh boy, what to do?? He's already neutered, the vet said he still might lose them up to the 1-1.5 year old but can he?? They seem so solid in, and I thought all the time his teeth are perfect

Yes they can lose them at over a year of age. It is unfortunate the vet who did the neutering didn't look. How old is he now? If the teeth are not overcrowding or throwing off the bite you could wait and see providing they are not damaging the secondary ones and watch for buildup of food and/or tartar from the overcrowding. You may end up having them removed by the Vet. I have seen dogs with retained baby teeth still at 3 or 4 years of age and they did a lot of damage to the positioning of the secondary teeth. No not my dogs, pet grooming clients.

Well, I can tell you that my Cowboy turned 1.5 years old and his didn't fall out. I have to get them removed. It is common for the Yorkies to retain their baby teeth. My mother-in-law just got an entire row (top) of baby teeth removed from her Yorkie. With both sets, he looked like the tiniest shark! I'd go ahead and get them removed....I highly doubt they will come out on their own and it does collect a lot of tartar and cuase bad breath.

I would wait about 6 months as you are thinking of doing especially if it is only the canines and there is not a crowding issue which is more likely when other teeth are retained.

That is what my baby boy had to do last tuesday, I took him to the vet and had them pulled. all his other baby teeth came out okay but he had two that didnt, my vet said that if you dont have them pulled the could get infected, so i took him last week, he is almost 10 months old.
