| Standard yorkie w/ smaller ones I currently have a standard yorkie and i am considering in getting a smaller one " teacup size girl " to keep my other baby company and i also thought it would be cute. I understand the risks involved with health but i am wondering if anyone has a small and bigger one together and if the bigger yorkie has any chance of hurting the little one?? |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I have a big boy that is 9 1/2 lbs (16 months old) and I have a 2 lb female (17 weeks old). They play fine. She has yet to be hurt by him. He understands that she is a lot smaller and plays accordingly with her. The funny thing is that she is the rough one in the bunch. They romp like they are nuts but he understands that she is smaller than he is. If you look at my avatar you can see the size difference on them.

| I am scared because mines is very hyper when he starts playing with my roomates tiny teacup sized chihuahua he gets too rough to the point that i have to seperate them because i start to worry. Although the little guy is very viscious aswell. Its super funny he barely has teeth! Instead of showing his fangs he shows his gums! |

However, I did at one point have a boy Doxie (15 lbs) who did not do this. He played rough with my girls and played rough even more so with my Yorkie. I think he thought she was a toy. He did this so much so that she became terrified of him. Correcting him didn't help it was just in his nature to be very rough and hyper. I had to keep them separated for the duration of his stay.

A standard yorkie is considered by the AKC to be 7lbs and under. Beware of anyone advertising the term "teacup". Yorkies are bred down in size making some very tiny and possibably causing health problems just to bring in more money by backyard breeders and puppymills. Hence the name "teacups". There is loads of information on this site regarding this. Please do some research so you will get a healthy new puppy. Good luck. Carol & Buddy

| my brandi is a large yorkie shes about 14 pound and we wanted another yorkie for her to play with as my other 2 are 13 years old now and we didnt get a tiny one cos she plays very rough and i know she would hurt a tiny so we ended up getting a shih tzu who are very sturdy so brandi cant hurt her and they love each other to bits.

| Bailey (female, 1 1/2 years) is 5 lbs and Tia is just over 2lbs ( just about 1 year). Bailey definately is the alpha dogs and she will fight with Tia. We have to keep our eye on them because its never a fair fight. We have had to separate the two of them many time for fear Bailey will really hurt Tia. I am one of those people who have had many medical problems with a small yorkie and would never recommend getting a small yorkie to anyone. IMHO, Standard size is small enough.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | During the first two weeks he was a bit rough but I watched them. I specifically got her when I was on vacation so I could acclimate them. When I would see him get a bit rough I would stop him and tell him she is a baby and to play nice. That worked well for us. No problems and I have had her in the house since December 22nd. I think the decision to add another has to be taken on a case by case situation depending on your dogs temperment and how ready you are to take on additional work. If you are ready to think seriously about it I would suggest maybe trying to take him to see the litter that you might get your next pup from. See if there is a pup he seems to like and you can get a sense of if it will work for you. Not sure but I did get a female 1) because I wanted a little girl and 2) because I figured it would be a bit easier to add a female to the mix. From my experiences in the past male dogs that we have had didn't care to have another male coming into the picture. So since I knew that I definitely wanted that second dog I opted to pick a female to lessen some of the dominance that would come into play. My avatar definitely shows who the boss is there in the house. Good luck.

| Me too! I have Jazzie a 9-year old/9-1/2" pound girl. She is like a mommie to the our 2 new babies, Jolie & Jen who are each about 3 pounds. Jazzie also took to Jewel when we first got her - Jewel was full grown at 3 pounds. As stated in other posts, I think it all depends on the temperment of your "Tea Pot" yorkie, if he plays well with others and is well socialized they should get along just fine. I don't think it's any different then some of us here that has both large breeds like Boxers, German shepheards, Goldens and Labs along with their little Yorkies. Let us know what you decide to do!
