During the first two weeks he was a bit rough but I watched them. I specifically got her when I was on vacation so I could acclimate them. When I would see him get a bit rough I would stop him and tell him she is a baby and to play nice. That worked well for us. No problems and I have had her in the house since December 22nd. I think the decision to add another has to be taken on a case by case situation depending on your dogs temperment and how ready you are to take on additional work. If you are ready to think seriously about it I would suggest maybe trying to take him to see the litter that you might get your next pup from. See if there is a pup he seems to like and you can get a sense of if it will work for you. Not sure but I did get a female 1) because I wanted a little girl and 2) because I figured it would be a bit easier to add a female to the mix. From my experiences in the past male dogs that we have had didn't care to have another male coming into the picture. So since I knew that I definitely wanted that second dog I opted to pick a female to lessen some of the dominance that would come into play.
My avatar definitely shows who the boss is there in the house.
Good luck.
