In Arizona there are a few places that will allow you to have your dog on the patio of a restaurant. I've never brought Ferdinand to one, I think smelling all the yummy food would be torture to him and he wouldn't behave.

LOVE IT!!! Excellent advice - Bully/Pixie Sticks!!!! YES! Why didn't I think of that. They'll stay busy for at least an hour with one of those things. Thanks~!

I am really surprized that people would get grossed out by seeing dogs at restaurants. Would you also decline a dinner invitation to a home that has dogs? Surely you cook at home around your dogs. It's not like they are going to allow dogs in the kitchen. What's the deal? What is the difference?
I am not trying to be a smart"donkey," just curious.

A very good point! But, there are people out there who do decline dinner invitations because someone has dogs. They feel, not matter how much you bathe them, that they are unsanitary. I guess not everyone is a dog lover. To me if you have a problem with my dogs you have a problem with me. However, I personally would never take them in an indoor restaurant.

Ya know this was just suppose to be a funny post. I didn't mean to start a war.. anyway.

I thought I could sneak in for a couple minutes. I really didn't think about it. I didn't get upset when I was caught. I just didn't want to make a long trip the next day when I was right there that night. I thought what the heck all they can do is ask me to leave and they did..LOL The post was in a joking way.

I respect other people. I know not everyone loves dogs. Just like I don't want someone smoking beside me. I really wish they would make everyone wash there hand before entering a place with food but that is not going to happen.

My family had a big falling out at Christmas over my brothers dogs. I don't have a problem with them and would eat right beside of them. My sister on the other hand is not a dog lover and didn't want her kids eating with a dog. It was a big mess with alot of hurt feeling.

After having raised 5 kids, and being the grandmother of 9, I can truly say the things kids pass around on their little hands, which they use for all sorts of unsavory actions, have given my family one contagious disease after another. I have never however had to treat them for anything they caught from a well cared for little bundle of fur in a carrier, or purse. I understand how some prople feel; but those of us that take our babies with us in defiance of rules, are not uncaring, or thoughtless. We just are addicted to our little loves, and don't wish to make anyone sick; and we hope they don't give our babies anything either! Lol!! Keeping it light, just another opinion. Have a good one all

I take Finnigen to my local 7-11 everyday (gotta fed my slurpee addiction) and I only had issues once, the manager glared at me but before he could speak I firmly stated that my dog was cleaner and more hygenic than 95% of the customers... to which he agreed and I've had no problems since. He's been to one grocery store once real quick trip in, several home depot type stores, and the Dr's office (but only because our Dr is a dog lover and insists I bring him in -- the girls take us right to the back so no other patients see us). I haven't tried the local Wal-mart but as soon as I get my carrier from Tinkerbell's closet I'm going to sneak him in!

I know...I'm HORRIBLE. lol But I know the Dentist personally so I figured if we're going to get busted anywhere - that'd be the best place to do it. Being a new Yorkie owner, I have never done that before and wasn't sure of the rules but figured a Dentist office where everything is sterile wouldn't be the best place but...what the heck. Of course she couldn't stay contained the whole time and we were busted about half way through the visit.
I guess I am really lucky. My dentist is a dog lover and he has always allowed me to bring Monday in with me -- he did request I bring her in a carrier if I am going to be in the chair long ... but otherwise, he lets her sit on my lap. I know he is eager to meet the new baby, Friday!

Oh Golly, I hate people who are so rational and logical, of course, you are RIGHT!!! But we like to live on the edge ... all of your arguments are valid (Phewy) .... when I had a Husky, I never had the urge to bring him into the stores .... But I love the adorable little Yorkie head popping out .... Itz such fun hearing a little kid tell his mom that "the girl's bag is moving,"
Now that I have two, I doubt I will be carrying them both along with me ....
But itz such a "high" getting away with it <sneaky lil me> ....

Amen sister! All very good points and I'd never dream of doing that with Braxton. But a ball of fur that doesn't make a peep and weighs less than my wallet? I wouldn't put her on the floor to run around and pee every where...she's too prissy for that anyway - only on the pee pad and only at home!

Yesterday we found a carrier at Petsmart. Not my favorite but for $20, I wasn't complaining. I put Calliope in it and my daughter and I went next door to KMart to try it out. Walked right through a group of about 6 employee's...in my sweet, high pitched voice..."Excuse me...Excuse me...Thanks!" Not a flinch...not a second glance...Nada! LOL

Oh my gosh I haven't felt like this since I tried to sneak vodka outta the house in high school!

Ooops...did I just say that out loud?

Couldn't have said it better myself....

I love animals, but they carry all sorts of diseases, including e-coli on their paws, and animal dander.

Rule are made for the better good of ALL. I don't understand why a certain percentage of the general population feel their personal wishes and desires should override the health and well-being of those who might be adversely affected by anything.....including animals. Especially when legitimate reasons are given....

i'm a "rule follower" too. i love my harley to death but he is not a kid and does not belong everywhere i go... so he stays home. not that i go anywhere much but he is just fine at home and happy. i would not dream of taking him somewhere i knew he wasn't allowed... and would be totally embarassed if i did and got caught. and my dog is really clean (and so are my kids) but that really does not mean anything.

I agree with you to a certain extent and I don't take Jaden or Jewelina anywhere where it is posted that they are not allowed or obvious places like emergency rooms, medical care, etc. However, most stores around here value my business enough and know how well kept my dogs are that I've never had a problem or been asked to leave anywhere yet (knock on wood). My dogs where shoes except at bed time, get cleaned everytime they go potty, their teeth get brushed twice a day, they get bathed from every 3-5 days, almost always have clothes on, eye gunk is cleaned off, and their coats are brushed and meticulously groomed.

I know for a fact neither of my dogs carry any diseases as I have had both of them tested by my vet. They also do not carry any animal dander because of how often they are bathed and groomed and the quality of the products that are used on them. My sister has severe allergies and I have had both Jaden and Jewelina tested for Pet dander before going to visit her and the results were negative. As to their paws, they are cleaner than any restaurants table, I'd feel more comfortable letting my 6 month old niece eat off of them than half of the public restaurants.

So while I do understand your point, and I agree that if there are stated rules that should be kept but I wouldn't say that all animals have diseases and problems. That is a pretty broad statement... Maybe some do carry diseases and dander but mine do not and I am sure many others do not either.
