I lived in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach for 3 years. It was so awesome! Everyone has dogs there (little & big.) Almost all of the restaurants have outside eating areas and the stores have dog biscuits inside so you can feed your dog a treat. I wish that I still lived there now that I have Izzie....

Everyone there is so open-minded about you bringing your furbaby wherever you want. I took Izzie to an intermural basketball game last week. The guy at the gym was like "You can't have a dog in here" when I tried to get her to go on her piddle pad. I sat right next to him for 30 minutes and he didn't even notice her! She started chasing him down the hall and when he picked her up, she licked his face. He then said "just clean up after her, okay?" That's my girl!

I have never snuck (is that a word?) any of my three in a store. Too chicken. Plus, I've gotten a little quicker with the mouth and slower with the brain and hard telling what I would end up doing....probably making a fool of myself.

Heck I can bring my girl in to food stores here. Your going to wash most food before you eat it any how

+ its not any different then having people who dont wash there hands after using the restroom touch all over the food and then put it back

I agree, I hate being kicked out of places (we've even been kicked out of outdoor swap meets for having Zoe) but I understand restaurants and supermarkets could loose their business license in CA if they allow pets

Ive had lil Sam almost a week and he is an official "go" furbaby. He has been to three different Wal~Marts, two Targets, two Big Lots, $ Tree, $ General, Lowes... Quick Check.. oh the list goes on and on... lol I do put him in my carrier that really looks like a purse and set him in the buggy. I give him his bully stick and he is good to go! He pops his lil head out towards the end tho when I go to get my wallet.

And I hope that I am prepared to speak with the manager at Target or Wal~Mart if I do get kicked out .... only to say... you know what, if you sell the bags that people can carry them in then you, as a company, should expect to see them being used in your store!!!!!

Knock on wood that we dont get kicked out but if we do, its understandable

I agree. I know our dogs are cleaner than alot of people but just because they're small in my opinion doesn't mean we should bring them everywhere. If yorkies are allowed why can't someone bring their mastiff too? I wouldn't care about seeing dogs in certain stores but not in food stores. Well unless the dog was secured in a carrier.

Not meant to offend just offer a different opinion.

I agree about the food stores with Sam we didnt go to the grocery department but if he is in his carrier, I wont say I wouldnt. I wouldnt take him to a restaurant.

Dallas is supposed to be passing some law - and may have already that you can have your dog on the patio of a restaurant as long as they are behaved.

I agree! I saw a woman with a dog in the food store one time. a tiny little something and I was horrified! I would love to bring my boys with me everywhere, but its true, that if I am allowed, then others are allowed and not everyone take such good care of their dogs! I know yorkies supposedly do not shed and are hypoallergenic, but mine do shed... pounds of hair! and my best friend is soooo allergic to my dogs that she can't be in my house more than a 1/2 hour

! But I LOVE bringing my boys to Petsmart! Its the one store that I don't go to without them!

So they told me he couldn't be in there I left. No way was I leaving him in the vehicle alone! I just wanted stinking blackberries. At the most 5 minutes.

I understand they have rules. I just gave it a shot. Thought I might sneak by so I could have my blackberries. LOL

Anyway Jazzy went to the Vet. He checked out perfect. He weighed in at 2.12 pounds.. LOL He is a little sore on his back where they gave him a shot but otherwise he is perfect!

If you sneak him in a purse/pet carrier, I am sure you would not have had a problem . . . as they would not have a clue. I snuck Annika at Costco in her celtei purse and no one except me and my daughter knew she was with me

When I was in Germany people took there dogs to resturants, i guess its not a heath code for them? The table next to us had A german shepard laying in the aisle.. maybe I should move there!

Actually any establishment that serves or sells food items do not allow dogs for health reasons

So expect to be kicked out unless you sneak them in discreetly

The only dogs allowed are "service" dogs

I agree! About a year ago one time I went to the movies, and it was opening night for a movie (forgot which one) and so it was crowded! These people smelled sooo bad, I think, from their nationality, it was there food, but it stunk! The whole movie I was covering my nose, switching seats w/ my boyfriend, just because the smell was making me nautiaus (sp?) After the movie when we stood up to leave, I told my boyfriend, but loud enough so others could hear that people need to respect OTHERS and make sure they themselves don't smell!! I was sooo mad!

Luckly, we love Yorkies. But if I were a St. Bernard lover, I would wonder why he couldn't come into the store and a little dog could

Anyways, I have snuck Tia into a couple of stores. The sucess? The right carrier and a quiet furbaby

I agree... good post. There isn't one store that has any form of food that isn't boxed up and sealed that will allow dogs - whether you get away with it or not is a different story...

It makes sense though... even if you're not allergic, would you want someone who just touched their flee infested, parasite ridden dog touching the fruits you're about to grab? I wouldn't. Grovery stores just aren't the places for dogs.

I do take Ferdinand into Target though - and you're only allowed to have service animals in there. I've never gotten in any trouble by having him... even if I did get stopped I'd tell them he was my seeing eye dog or something.
