| Just got my first Yorkie - need advice Hello all! I am so glad to have found you! After a long search and a horrid experience with internet fraud and a breeder scam I finally have my first (notice I said FIRST ) Yorkie. Mia is 13.5 weeks old 2 lb 7 oz - would y'all agree she will likely end up 4 - 5 lbs? I bought her from a breeder in FL. She is CKC. She flew in to NM on Sunday and seems to be doing well. We were confining her in our kitchen, but I think it is a bit big, so today bought a play yard - the kind in sections you put on the floor. She was pretty good on paper training, but had numerous "near misses" so think she needs a smaller area. My son is a competitive gymnast and my daughter a competitive fencer, so we are planning to take her on our travels. Any training suggestions/hints? I also have a 100+ lb chocolate lab who is VERY careful with Mia. Any other helpful hints/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have wanted a yorkie for years and she is very loving. My daughter (almost 13) wants to be with Mia 24/7, so I'm sure she will be quite spoiled. I just don't want her to be too controlling. thanks a million! Julie |

| Julie! Welcome to both you and Mia!! Greetings from Wales! We have two yorkies, Gypsy Rose aged 15 months and baby Gizzie Chavi who is 15 weeks on Friday! She is the same weight approximately as little Mia! I also wonder how big she'll be or how SMALL maybe!! Your lab sounds so kind and gentle but then I've never yet met one who's not! We travel a lot with our 2 girls and they are happy enough! Looking forward to hearing more about Mia! Ana xx |

| Welcome goldcupmom! It just takes a lot of patience and effort to get them potty trained. Praise a lot when they succeed in peeing in the right area, perhaps add a little treat as well. Sounds like Mia will be a well-travelled Yorkie, if you can get her to go on pee pads consistently, you should be fine. |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk, Julie and Mia! We got our Yorkie, Higgins, while we were camping in Florida last winter. He loves to travel with us in our little travel trailer and does very well. Will you be traveling mostly by car? If so, just be sure to stop often to take her on a leash/harness and give her something to drink. One thing we do when we travel is to give our dogs bottled water to drink. Different kinds of water can do awful things to their tummies which is NOT pleasant when traveling. Which one is it that you don't want to be "too controlling?" Your daughter or Mia? Because if it's Mia, you're in for it. She'll creep right into all your hearts and control the whole family before you realize it! My house looks like a two year old lives here....and we're retired! |

| Greetings Goldcupmom! I'm Melissa from FL! I also just got my first yorkie, a teacup. She's 9 weeks old and weighs about 1.4 lbs. Her name is Luna. I'm so glad you and I are on the same boat. I will be learning a lot from your postings! hehe, if you look below you may find my post (subject: "Luna Update") may be of some help for you. I'm sure we'll be the ones with bags on our eyes and headaches for the next couple of months. hehehe

| Welcome, Julie and Mia!! Our Toto is also an "only child", 15 months and 4 lbs! She is our joy!! Never dreamed a Yorkie would be so much fun or we would have bought one years ago! Toto has more personality than lots of people I know!! We travel a lot and Toto is the best little traveller! I feel certain you will like it here!
