| My baby girl is getting spayed :( I didnt know where to post my question, because she not sick/injured so I thought I would try general discussion. I have an almost 6 month female, Shena, who is getting spayed on Friday morning. I have a male yorkiepoo who has been neutured but that was almost five years ago, and I remember he recovered really quickly being a male and all. What should I expect for my little girl furbaby?? How long does recovery take? What should I expect on Friday afternoon when I bring her home?? Any information will help! Thanks so much |

| My 7 month baby girl got spayed 2 weeks ago, and i was so nervous for her! but everything went great. my vet requires all females to spend the night after the surgery (which upset me having to spend the night away from her!), but we picked her up early the next morning. she was very tired that day, and just cuddled up on the couch with us. they tell you not to let them jump, so we had to make sure to pick her up on/off the couch instead of her doing it herself. after a couple of hours she caught on though (you could tell it hurt her anyways). the next day she was still a little tired but had more engery and wanted to play...and by the 3rd day she was back to her normal self and wanted to jump and run around (which was sad becuz we couldnt let her do too much of that)...over the 3-5 days after the surgery she started doing more jumping and playing...so now two weeks later her stiches are out and its like nothing ever happen! so that day i would just expect your baby to be tired and just want to sleep, so just cuddle up with her! then i would take saturday easy, sit around and cuddle...each yorkie is different and recovery varies, but it should only take a couple days for her to want to play and run around again! hope this helps!!! best of luck!!!

| aww.. i remember like it was yesterday when layla got spayed.. she was one tired girl... she came home the same night... i stayed on the couch (she is in her crate) so that i could hear her when she woke up... she will probably need you to hold her up when she needs to pee... layla had a few accidents on a blanket because she wasn't able to tell me that she had to go.. so take her out frequently... she didn't feel like eating much but i made sure she drank a lot... also we bought baby onsies to put on her instead of the e-collar. that way she was comfy and i knew that when i was sleeping she wouldn't take her stiches out.. she wore those to bed until the vet removed her stiches. layla was groggy for about 3 days after... but slowly came around... make sure you don't bathe her until her stiches are gone. i'll be thinking of you both and don't hesitate to post questions if you have any |

| Very Frightened!! I've had many dogs during my life, but this is my first Yorkie. Sadie was scheduled to be spayed in January but developed a stomach upset, diarrhea, and a urinary tract infection just before her appointment. Our vet put her on 2 weeks of antibiotics for the UTI, and felt that we should postpone her being spayed. At that time, she only weighed 3 pounds and he wanted her to gain some weight and be a little older before he spayed her. NOW - I'm scared to death to have her spayed!! She weighs 3.5 pounds now. I'll probably wait until Summer to have her spayed, although I had wanted to have her spayed before her first heat to minimize the chance of mammary cancer further on down the line. Does anyone her have any input on the incidence of mammary cancer in unspayed females??? Thanks for your input!!

| thank you everyone for your thoughts!!! My Shena weighs about 6 lbs. so that is a great idea about the onesie. I threw away all of my daugter's but I will definitely get some. She sleeps in her crate at night, so I think I will put it on her while she is in there. I almost wish the vet would keep her overnight, but then there is not anyone at the office overnight anyway. So I guess she will be better at home with love and care Prayers and good wishes to all of those little yorkie's getting spayed and neutered soon |
