| Babies Safety With Visitors In House My eldest grandson has joined the Air Force and I asked him to come for a visit (to CA from NJ) before he begins his 'new big adventure'....and he will be here for a week. After we had made the arrangements, I got to thinking about his big feet and my little Sassy. His feet are bigger than her, I am sure...LOL I used to get upset with him for leaving them just anywhere for me to trip over. They are like gunboats. So...whenever you have guests, what steps do you take to ensure the safety of your little ones? Because I am also worried about the in and out thing with the doors. |

| First thing I do when people come into my home is to teach them the "Yorkie Shuffle" and direct them to always look down, never close or open a door without looking down first. It usually doesn't take long for people to get the hang of it. Its' funny, I never worried so much about these things until I got AprilLove into the house.

It's funny that you should call it the shuffle, because my best friend and I were talking about it last night with the exact terminology. Sassy is fast, too. She can be not there one second and there the next. One day I thought I was being so careful and went out to empty trash. I 'made sure' she wasn't there when I went out and after I came in, I couldn't find her. I quickly went into hysterics, running all over the house and calling her....then I went to the front door and there she sat, right outside the door. I nearly lost my mind for a couple of minutes there.

| I would put her in her crate when you both are not sitting on the floor playing with her, rolling a ball back and forth and such. I wouldn't take the chance. Did you read on here where one little Yorkie was killed by a boyfriend accidently stepping on it. |

| WHAT? When did that happen? Oh my goodness, that would be my worst nightmare.

She sleeps with me, she goes most places with me and I am at home with her most of the time. The cage is in my bedroom. Maybe I will bring it into the living area when she is in it while they are here so she won't feel so alone back there all by herself....but I have a feeling she will be protesting much.

| I had my friend visiting for about 2 weeks and I didn't take any chances, I tried to keep them in my sight at all times and if I was busy I put them in their room Better safe than sorry.

| Get a good baby gate (the totally plastic ones, they can't chew through those) and put her in the kitchen with a bed, her toys, food and water. Just when you cannot watch her. Having to step over a gate is a good reminder of the little one underfoot AND you know that she is safe and not going to run out the door whenever he opens it. Enjoy your visit

I did send him an email telling him they must be very careful....I enclosed a copy of the baby Ella incident. I will probably have to keep her in her cage a lot more than I would like to. I have to keep her safe!! And thanks for your wishes for a good visit. I don't know how long it will be before I see him again.

| Awww nuts! I bet your home is beautiful though, I always wanted an open floor plan like that OOO I know!!!! An Xpen!!!! They can be found at PetSmart, PetCo, PetSupermarket (best price there!) If you want, you could even take it back when he leaves It IS handy to have though, when you cannot keep an eye on the pups You can even get two and join them together to give Sassy a bit more room to roam Prayers for your Grandson's safe return home on the way

I think I will go to PetSmart and get a couple of those pens. I need to do something and that's the best solution, it seems. Thank you! I will be getting a puppy in a few months, so I will definitely need one or two then, anyway.

Thank you for your good wishes. I wonder why it is that men usually seem to not be able to 'be careful' like we can.... maybe it is simply genetics. You know...that Venus and Mars thing.
