| It was my yorkie that chewed the hole in the carpet. I believe it was as much my fault as his. It was a hectic day at our house. We had workers in and out of the house. I put Chachi upstairs and left him for the better part of the day so he would not get outside when someone came in to use the restroom. I din't give him any chew toys. He got agrivated and chewed the carpet. That is the first time he had did this. I never lock him up so I feel he was just acting out. He has chewed on a cord before or a shoe. For the most part though the chewing is controllable if you make sure they have chew bones when they are teething. Sorry I scared you! This is just normal puppy stuff but I do feel responsible that Chachi chewed the carpet.

| It is a commitment. But with a reward of love you never dreamed of. To me it's just like having a baby. My kids are grown and I was having empty nest syndrome when I decided I wanted a yorkie. I had a lot of people try to talk me out of it. I have a friend whose parents have one and she wanted me to get one. Anyway my girl is 12 wks old. She wants to chew on my hands not the furniture. She is just like any other puppy, you have to keep an eye on her and if you don't she will get into something. I use a baby playpen set up in my den. If I am doing something that I can't watch her she goes in the playpen. They are wonderful animals but do require a lot of attention. ( which is not hard he he ) Its something that only you can decide. hth

| I'm a new Yorkie Mom. I say new, it's only been a month since we got Maggie. Won't lie to you. It was HELL the first two weeks. I was beginning to have second thoughts. A few days I was so tired, I was dizzy. I started out day one with crate training. It's hard for a puppy to understand everything you want them to do, so they cry. I CRIED TOO!!!!!. Sleep was something I only dreamed about, if I had the time to sleep. Starting the 3rd week, it was like heaven. She sleeps all night. Goes to her crate at 8:30 and up at 6:30. Hasn't had an accident in the house in over a week. Wee Wee pads didn't work for me. She thought they were something to tear up or lay on. She has a lot of toys to play with and CHEW on. Biting is not allowed. Had to result in a quick thump on the nose, since the Bitter Apple sprayed on the hands didn't work. She likes to strike like she is going to bite, but she never carries it through. When I can't watch her every move, I put her in the playpen with some toys, which isn't very often. I try to have as much physical contact and playtime with me as possible. Yesterday I told my daughter that this little CHILD was perfect. She corrected me by saying its a DOG.. I corrected her with it's my baby. Needless to say, that ended that conversation. All in All, the secret to having a pet that behaves the way you want them to, is ALL up to you. You must be consistent. Just because it's cute today, doesn't mean it's cute tomorrow. If you don't want a bad habit started, then start stopping it by correct training. Maggie is my first toy baby and I love her more and more each day. They are so much like a human child that it's almost scary. I hope you get a Yorkie. They are the greatest. |
