Brush Creek Kennel Investigation

This was found on www.backpage.com under pet forums (one of which I started and some more people starting to come forward)



My husband and I drove several hundred miles to Houston to pick up a Cavalier. The one we had chosen couldn't walk and the woman told us she had probably played too rough. (Ha.) We looked at 5 more before we found one that looked moderately healthy and didn't have a limp. We should have left and let them have our $600 deposit which is what they said would happen if we didn't take a dog. While we were waiting for the "paper work" a little yorkie came into the room. It was obviously ill. The woman told us it had heart disease. When we picked our dog up to hold her, we noticed a hernia. BC told us they would reimburse us the cost of having that fixed. Of course, they did not. They totally ignored our correspondence with the vet bill, etc. When I emailed them, I was told David was out of the country (as always) and that IF they had said that they would pay. They had a copy of the paper where it was written in her handwriting. We have never received a dime. When our dog was less than 6 months, her hip blew out. We spent several thousand dollars on that surgery. She will also need knee surgery. She has had other surgery to correct another birth defect. I have just chalked the whole experience up to rescuing an abused pup. Those people are horrible. I would love to join in a class action suit. They should be shut down and punished.

a "top three" worst experience

I had a horendous experience with this kennel a couple of years ago. I did buy an ill dog, nursed him back to moderate health over a four month period, and returned him to the kennel on the advice of my veterinarian. This dog nearly died twice, by the way. The entire experience was devasting, and Brushy Creek couldn't have cared less. I also paid for nearly all the health care he received and flew him back to those SOB's at my expense (even though I was "promised" reimbursement for all of it). After much badgering of them, I received a very small stipend from the owner's sister-in-law, who did so I believe unbeknownst to her brother-in-law.

I then flew to Houston, and hand picked another dog, whom I still have. He is healthy, but I believe that was pure luck.

Dealing with them was one of the most horendous and traumatic experiences of my life.

the people that wrote there experience of brushy creek. you can view what they posted on www.backpage.com go to the forum section and under pets, you'll see brushy creek on there.

Think about it. If you can discount that it MIGHT be mud on that dog, most animals WOULD be scared after a flight, etc. You CANNOT discount that the man has KNOWINGLY sold sick puppies/dogs and misrepresented the animals he has sold many times over. This is proven in many many ways.

We know the "hype" the media can put on anything. Take Michael Jackson, for instance, during the allegations of his taking indecent liberties with a minor. The courts ruled on it, BUT...

Would YOU send YOUR young son to visit him at his little fantasyland? Tell the truth here..... (of course this is hypothetical, I don't even know if you have a son)

I would shoot the dog too... However since we are not rednecks we wouldnt get the concept of hanging a dead animal on your fence. Sounds like he was proud of his kill and just parading it

There are hundreds of puppy mills in this country and if we really want to make a difference then those are the ones we should really be trying to stop.

Whats the difference? Pick your stance and stay with it. It appears there are many who have had bad experience with him also.

it's not a double standard - The Brushy Creek people sell dogs with far worse health issues & have way too many of the same complaints - I've read the same posts as everyone else and had my share of comments - as far as discussing a large kennel - it stands to reason we should discuss the worst ones and the Brushy Creek people have proved they are running a pretty bad place judging from the news shows......the sad thing is - they aren't the only ones out there operating like this.

Well from the research other ppl have done here it appears Mr. Dane also has had many complaints (sick, dieing etc..) There were several posted earlier.

and Jig - good post - and yes - I've read the posts and have talked to people who bought puppies from yorkiepup.com - I'm not thrilled with anyone who mass breeds but as far as I can tell he does make the effort to make things right with his customers and his 'kennel' is clean - Brushy Creek won't even LET people back to see theirs ......I think with Dane - what you see is what you get - yes his prices are outrageous - but I've yet to read where someone bought a puppy and didn't receive the puppy they chose........but worse - the illnesses of many dogs I've heard about at BCK have had life threatening illnesses & in too many cases - dogs have died......so, as far as this kind of operation goes - his may be one of the better ones.

Did you get access to his kennels? The reason I asked is because someone asked for photos of the kennels. He told them to "have a nice life". I am just curious.

no - he has pictures on his website - or at least he used to - I haven't been on the site in a while. But Mr. CONTENTIOUS - this thread isn't about Jeff Dane - it's about Brushy Creek ...the reason I posted is because there aren't the hundreds of complaints against him like there are against Brushy Creek - which tells me he must have made things right with his customers maybe ?

I know I will start my own! lol and I will get the "Taste of Blood". He can try to sue all he wants but that has been tried on many of these types of boards and the supreme court has ruled this falls under the "1st amendment" I wonder if anyone has heard of that one????
Well shoot I can put nice pics on my web site too. but that does not mean My 500 yorkies I feed to Albert aren't living in cages! How do you know there are not 100 of complaints? I have found a few and I have not even started. But Mr. Dane does have a very valid point. Why go after small fish when there are huge fish in the ocean go after the real puppy mills (i.e. Pet stores)

there you go that's my thinking too - on the bigger scope - Puppy Mills are the worst of the worst (and I include Petland in this). I wish we could do something about mills but until our laws change all we can do for now is keep talking about it and hope one day our country wakes up and sees them for what they are & people in power ACT on it. What bothers me is we have inspectors ....but how do the bad ones stay in business ??? don't those inspectors have hearts ?
