| HELP! I'm unsure of what to expect. What should I ask or expect when purchasing a yorkie? I will be purchasing a pup real soon, maybe from someone that is a part of this group. But I am unsure of what questions to ask and what to expect. If anyone has any pointers, please help! |

| Befor I got my girls I read as much as possible for almost a year, on the net, in books and at the library. I talked to people who were showing Yorkies here in my town and also talked to some other people who show them, and got nice references. I ended up getting the girls from a lady who shows Yorkies and came with great references. My girls parents and grandparents and on back are all champions, and the lady is very careful about her breeding practices. She never let a puppy go without a spay or neuter to homes that don't show them, and she also always has the liver shunt test done on each one. Then out of nowhere, my Zada ended up with surgery on both knees at one time due to luxating patella. You just never know regardless of how careful you are. I'd say talk to some people who show these guys and see if they have any or know someone who does. When you do find a reputable breeder that you want to do business with, ask them for some names and numbers of people that have bought dogs from them so you can call and find out how their dogs are doing. NEVER buy a puppy sight unseen. You pick a puppy from the litter. Don't have one flown to you from somewhere. A reputable breeder will want you to come see the pups first anyway, and will always ask you a LOT of questions too. They want to be sure their pups get a good home. |

| I can agree with some of the things that yorkiedaze stated, I to researched for a year before I bought Kodak. However I did have Kodak shipped after pics were sent to me online. I told each breeder exactly what I wanted as far as size and color. I went thru about 75 breeders and sellers literally and started to eliminate. I found several people that had yorkies here but I did not like the way some of the pups and parents looked. I would visit breeders where ever I went, out of town and around town. I even searched the newspapers. I researched and checked references and the Akc & Ytca to make sure the breeder was reputable. She is in Oklahoma and she shipped Kodak to Chicago and he's been healthy for 2 yrs. I thank God for his health and I am now going with another breeder closer to home. I will drive this time to get my new one. So do your research, talk to the breeders and see how knowledgeable they are. Make sure you are comfortable with how they raise their dogs and that they are not a kennel. Good luck
