I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound rude, but how could you call her your baby if you are getting rid of her so easily based on a couple of faults?

Being roached back will not in any way, affect a Yorkie's value as a pet.By the time a person has mistakenly bought a puppy with an obvious fault to use for breeding and then educated themselves in the responsibilities and charactersistics of a breeding program, the pet will be several years old and will have had a good life as a beloved family member.
I would like to meet a responsible breeder who truthfully never made one mistake when buying their first breeding stock.
I read on another forum a good while ago, that there comes so much responsibility with breeding that it should keep you awake at night!! I have to say, I AGREE!!!
BTW, roach back puppies usually have short necks and look as if they are always looking up..

Unhappy A informative website for you....

Just wanted to add to this post..I bought from a bad breeder as well and filed a claim against her. For florida there is a Pet Lemon Law which im sure is in every sate. I went to my states website: http://www.doacs.state.fl.us/ai/main...mon_main.shtml and it has a lot of good information. I filed a claim against the breeder I bought from and will be taking her to a small claims court. In the pet lemon law (you can read it on this website) it states that you can give back your dog to the breeder within 14 days or something like that, you'll have to read it. Just thought I'd let you know. Good luck.

Wow i didn't know what a roach back was either, but i think my little gidget may have one. she is way to small to breed, but I just bred one of my other yorkies to Gidgets father which may have the roach back. I have a lot to learn obviously. This lady who owns the father of my gidget sells her pups for $800 and females $850. I will be sure to take a closer look at him next time i see her. She wants one of my females pups. Gidgets mom, sugar has a straight back but gidget looks like she has a hump on hersin the middle.

Sounds like she may have it, too. Take her to the vet if you are concerned about it. I've learned my lesson the hard way. If a pup is standing up, you should be able to run your hand across it's back and not feel any curves. I should not have been so quick to jump on this one. And yes, when I do sell her, I am planning on being totally honest with ANY buyer.

Unfortunately, the State of Texas doesn't have this law. I did a google search. Although it did list several states that have this.

Yes i think honesty is always the way to go. I probably want be breeding either of my two females with this lady's dog again. Now i have a litter of puppies comming in July that i will have to have checked out for the roach back. Anything else i should look for besides the bite and roach back? We have some crazy people around here that don't care what they sell to people as long as they make a buck.

The lady that I took Gia to today also check her hips and said that she has very narrow hips. Not quite sure what that means but she probably would have a hard time delivering pups if she was bred. Also, bad knees are common and also a genetic defect...oh, and I've heard that hernias are too.

A roach back would not qualify as an ill pup. Some are over angulated in the hind end so their backs roach up. Some really can straighten out when they want to but pull in and hump over. The hernia was disclosed prior to purchase.

My contract would have stated the pup needed the repair at spay. The pup is pet quality only and this should have been discussed prior to the sale. I hope you find a good pet home for her.

If you really want a breeding quality Yorkie you need to wait and get a pup 6-12 months old. No one can guarantee an eight week old pup will be breedable. Many things can go off between 3 months and a year old.

The lady who has the male i bred my two dogs to has been known to breed tiny yorkies and have c-sections. I would never do that. I bought my first yorkie from her and she died a couple of months later. I didn't have an ortopsie, but i feel like it might have been shunts. I bought another yorkie from another lady and i have never had any problems with her. I shouldn't have bred her with the first lady's dog, but she told me since the pup i bought from her died that i could breed for free. She ended up having two females and i gave one to my daughter and kept the tiney one. They both have humps on their backs. I just thought that was the way some yorkies were shaped, but i did take notice to it.Thanks for the information.

I am so sorry for all the problems it's so emotional when buying a pup...

we look at how cute they are, how playful, how they come right to you, next thing you know that puppy picks you, kisses you, wont leave your side! We tend to lose focus about quality and buy on emotion.

Getting so wrapped up in the purchase, the excitement overwhelms you, oops you take him home and you've over looked the faults of a pet.

there two responsible parties here...

the buyer and the seller...

the buyer has the responsiblity to gain as much knowledge of the breed before they buy. While the pricing varies the quality of the pup does too!

the seller (breeder) has the responsiblity in sharing as much knowledge as possible of the pup she has raised and to be honest (not all are) ASK YOUR BREEDER QUESTIONS have her show you the qualities of the dog.

Show her your knowledge of the breed, let her know you are a true fancier!!

As she grills you about personal things about you as to the best placement of her dog, grill her back on the qulaity of her pet she is selling.

keep emotions tucked away when youre looking for good quality. Always take a pup away from his litter mates when you look at him/her. A good quality pup at 12-14 weeks sometimes younger will stack on his own his ears should be up and his tail too (sometimes called a gay tail if too far up but never considered a fault). He is showing his pride when he stands!

Stack your pup yourself its easy to do or ask the breeder to do this for you...

take him/her to a solid surface place a couple fingers under his neck and the other hand place right under his/her tail (that will show or not a roach back). Instead of looking at only what a cute face he has look at his muzzle and notice his jaw line...althought this is still no guarantee. Since your buying while puppy teeth exist the adult teeth could reek havoc creating an under or over bite that wasnt their before.

If you dont notice the faults on a used car when you drive off the lot the salesperson isnt going to point them out and SAY DONT BUY IT after you signed a contract!

That's why I say it is both parties responsiblity, the buyer to understand the breed look for the faults, if the seller doesnt answer your now informed questioning to your satisfaction then go to the next breeder...

JMHO

I hope you are able to resolve it
good luck

ps

never buy without a contract you are spending your hard earned money demand one and understand what the contract extends to you as a buyer.

Any reputable breeder will have a clause for return. Mine is 72 hours, but to tell you the truth if you decide you dont want my baby at 4 months I would take him back...

I dont want a pup in a home where they would resent their selection and perhaps take it out of the poor pup. Or even worse a buyer then resells the pup again not identifying the faults of the pup, it could become a vicious circle.
