Ok, if I were to do this shave method to help with the standing up of Daisy's ears, do I only shave the inside part of the ear,not the back side...right? Because if shaving the back side is involved, I don't want to do that.

It is the backside that has all the heavy weight of hair -- first just try to trim it up if you are against shaving. Then the next step would be just to shave the top third of the ear. That is all that Ben ever had shaved and his stood fine. But my girl, Sadie, still had one down even with the top third shaved. So, I finally had to shave it down almost to the bottom. She had pretty thick hair. It stood perfectly the next day. From here on out, I will just shave the top third as I think that is all she will need. She just needed the extra help for that one ear to get started. BTW -- within a week, the ear had a nice little gold fringe all over and looks so pretty.

Ok, I hate to have to trim off any of her pretty hair, but if I don't have to take off very much, then I think I will be ok with that. Daisy has very thick hair also. But if within a week, she has grown some more hair back out, I should be alright, & won't grieve too much about her missing some of that gorgeous hair.
I suppose if I do want her ears to be fully erect, and I do...I should be doing what I can to help them along now while she is still very young.

Oh, I also wanted to ask, if I should decide to try and tape her ears, do the ears have to taped absolutely perfectly, because she is VERY lively, hates to have her hair brushed, so knowing that, I know she would not hold still while I tried to tape her ears up...so I wouldn't be able to get tape on them just perfectly.

I am honestly not 100% sure about how perfect they have to be. Maggie is a squirm worm too and hers weren't "perfect" but they look fine, I think. the cotton really helps. And I just waited until she was asleep and did it. I only got to do one ear at a time because she would get restless but I got them both done within an hour of each other and they turned out just fine. It is my understanding that shaving the back of the ear is normal...even as they are adults and the ears still are standing fine. The hair grows long around the ear so it doesn't look bad. But if you look at a lot of the beautiful yorkie pics out there, the tips of the ears have short hair. Even if you don't like it shaved at first, the hair will grow fast and you will have at least given the ears a chance to stand...and then you can grow it back out. it's just hair

Ok, I have trimmed back the hair on her ears, pretty much shaved the front side, and trimmed the back side way down, it seems it have helped the lower half of her ears, but the top half is still not erect, so I am waiting for my husband to bring home the surgical tape, so I can give that a try. I'm hoping she will not be so squirmie, she's such a lively little girl...never holds still for me. We even had such a time getting her ears trimmed down!!

OH..thanks! and you are very welcome. I sure hope that it all helps. Please keep us posted and let us know how it is going. I know for a fact that if you tape those ears, leave it there for a day, they will be standing straight up for you. as for trimming the hair, if that is the only method you try, I believe that takes several days to work. I was impatient so went ahead with the taping and it worked like a charm. So...good luck and PLEASE don't forget to let us know how it works for you. and post pics of those ears standing up!!!

Mardelin, if they look like bedroom slippers does it mean the coat is usually soft as apposed to silky or the other way around?

My yorkies don't leave my house until their ears are up, I usually start taping at 8 weeks, if they aren't up by then. When they do go to their forever homes, I inform their new parents that their ears my go down again, when they begin teething again and taping may be needed again.

The one way to tell if your yorkie is silk or soft coated....take a look at her feet does she have an abundance of coat on them, do the look like bedroom slippers.

I did shave her heavy ears down on both sides, and I have now taped her ears up also...should I just leave the tapes on for 24 hours or go abit longer?
My Daisy has (to me) an abundance on coat on her little feet, she has a very thick coat, very shiny too.

I found one of our "oops" pictures, she would not pose, she is just so squirmy! Anyway, I think this picture shows how much of abundance of coat she has on her little feet pretty well & even this picture was taken about a week ago, so now it's even thicker!
