I am honestly not 100% sure about how perfect they have to be. Maggie is a squirm worm too and hers weren't "perfect" but they look fine, I think. the cotton really helps. And I just waited until she was asleep and did it. I only got to do one ear at a time because she would get restless but I got them both done within an hour of each other and they turned out just fine. It is my understanding that shaving the back of the ear is normal...even as they are adults and the ears still are standing fine. The hair grows long around the ear so it doesn't look bad. But if you look at a lot of the beautiful yorkie pics out there, the tips of the ears have short hair. Even if you don't like it shaved at first, the hair will grow fast and you will have at least given the ears a chance to stand...and then you can grow it back out. it's just hair
