I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Park Etiquette My backyard overlooks a park where there are occasionally other dogs. Joey, my 18-week-old yorky barks aggressively when he sees another dog, the bigger the other dog the more he barks. When I come upon someone while walking, I pick him up while we are still a distance. The other dogs seem curious and walk up to us with their owner. Joey barks and wiggles furiously wanting down. In the past, with bigger breeds I owned, I used to let my dogs sniff other dogs, and that always stopped the barking, but I'm uncomfortable doing this with Joey. By the way, he does have the opportunity to socialize with a Maltese for a couple of hours a week, but that's the only dog he sees on a regular basis. How do handle this, do you hold your yorky the whole time and do you reprimand him for barking at strange dogs? I could walk with my can of pennies. Thanks, Nancy |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The reason I asked this question is that many of you recommended I socialize Joey when I got him. I don't know if this means that he should just SEE other dogs or that he interacts with them in some way. How do you do this? Nancy |

| I don't know if this is an option for you but I take Simon and Hallie to doggie daycare twice a week where they play with other dogs all day (small dogs). Simon is very well socialized as he has been going to daycare since he was a baby, he loves ALL dogs and all sizes. One of his best friends is a half doberman/half lab next door. I am very careful though if I don't know the bigger dogs. |

| When Jaxon was a puppy, I took him to a puppy class at a local training facility. It was great for socializing him and getting him comfortable around other dogs. Another suggestion is local Yorkie meet up groups. Check www.meetup.com to see if there's one near you.
