 Park Etiquette
My backyard overlooks a park where there are occasionally other dogs. Joey, my 18-week-old yorky barks aggressively when he sees another dog, the bigger the other dog the more he barks. When I come upon someone while walking, I pick him up while we are still a distance. The other dogs seem curious and walk up to us with their owner. Joey barks and wiggles furiously wanting down. In the past, with bigger breeds I owned, I used to let my dogs sniff other dogs, and that always stopped the barking, but I'm uncomfortable doing this with Joey. By the way, he does have the opportunity to socialize with a Maltese for a couple of hours a week, but that's the only dog he sees on a regular basis. How do handle this, do you hold your yorky the whole time and do you reprimand him for barking at strange dogs? I could walk with my can of pennies.
