Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | In Desperation...Any Advice ? Well, I have reached the point of desperation here...does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with this problem. I have 6 Yorkies, 4 boys and 2 girls. One of my boys who is 2 years old lifts his leg against anything and everything he can reach....chairs, table, packages on floors, the bed, even people !!! What is it with him and what can I do to stop it. I have tried so many different ways/things. I really do not want to keep him in a belly band because he has very sensitive skin and immediately gets a horrid tummy rash. Added to that the stench of the wet belly band gets unbearable quickly. I have had Yorkies all my life and never had such a problem with another dog. All the others follow but only on the floor or wee wee pad....not all over everything ! He is sooo bad and unruly...lol...oh yes, his name is Bad to the Bone Bandit....and he is true to his name ! Thanks Guys for any suggestions you can offer !

| Sounds like you need to take a step back in your house breaking. In the sense that you're always going to have to watch him. And when you can't, he needs to be confined to a crate or something simliar. If you just put him in the kitchen and block it off, there go your cabinets and corners-like you said. Otherwise, the belly band is really it. You've put yourself in a tough spot and now you've got a marker on your hands. He'll have to be dealt w/ differently than your other male(s) and I'm sure he does this all the time and not just when your girl(s) are in season...in fact, I'm quite certain that has little to do w/ it. You might want to have him on a leash walking around the house w/ you for quite some time. That way if you see him lift his leg you can correct him. Just a few thoughts. It's no fun! I wish ya the best. (but I'll always own males!!!) Oh, and having him neutered most likely will NOT help alleviate this issue. |

| I would use the belly bands and put Poise panty liners in them. Then change them frequently. And like yorkieK9trainer said go back to keeping him confined. I'm not sure, but I believe having two males will cause more marking. |

| Maybe you could consider having him neutered? or like someone else said earlier confining him to a smaller space? |

I do line the belly bands with the poise pads but I guess I will have to change him more frequently since there probably is no other good solution...I was just hoping I missed something....sigh Whaaaaaaaaah . The 2 girls are spayed so no issue there...he is just BAAAAAD.....or I am

| I think a bellyband is definitely the way to go too. I use washclothes - (and have a stack of about three dozen of them). I fold one diagonally and wrap it around Murphy - and then pin it with a diaper pin. I change these every time they are even the slightest bit damp (remember I have tons of them - never run out - and I just throw them in the washing machine when only a few are left...easy!) Murphy has never gotten a rash. He is 14 months old - and doesn't pee very often anymore. I take his bellyband off and take him outside every two hours or so, and he is good about peeing outside. Murphy's bellyband is almost never wet in the morning (he doesn't wet overnight). The first year of Murphy's life - he was confined to the kitchen when I went to work. And - for months, he has never pee'd in that area when I'm gone. So, I have started putting a bellyband on him and let him run loose while I'm gone. And when I'm gone for 6 or 7 hours to work - it is always dry when I get home. (If he starts wetting it while I'm gone - I will put him back in the kitchen....because I don't want him wearing a wet bellyband for hours while I'm gone....but so far, he's doing great! ... and he's wearing it just in case.) So - Actually Murphy is really potty trained quite well. Bellybands for him are for "just in case" in the house. But some evenings - he will wet once or twice (perhaps I don't get him out often enough) -- but he doesn't damage the carpet or anything. REMEMBER - you little dog does not have to be running around with a stinky wet bellyband on. Check it often and keep a dry one on him. I know this will solve your problem. It is so simple..... And - you all be happier. Good luck! Carol Jean PS: I do agree with you. I think that if a dog were left running around with a wet bellyband on - it would get stinky - and they would get a rash. But it's easy not to let this happen. (And don't forget - when they wet around the house - carpets, etc., this gets stinky too..... this is what I don't want to happen.) I deliberately got a little boy dog - so that I could use a bellyband - Thank God, I did this. I don't know what I would do with a little girl who was hard to potty train. |

| I'm so wanting to nueter our male right now. But we have him for the purpose of breeding so I guess that is out. I'm home all the time with Titan and he is very sneaky about marking things. I never see him do it but always find evidence that he has. Why do they have to be such pains.

| I have five dogs and my oldest shihtzu marks. His belly band is always wet and i change it constantly. I have tried everything too. He is 6 years old and had started before he was neutered. He was neutered at 9 months but never stopped. I have been dealing with this for a long time and would do anything to stop it. He gets rashes from time to time my vet gave me some medicated pads to wipe him with when i change his pads. He hasn't had a rash since. If you find a solution, please let me know. Joan |
