| Need advice on Spaying...... Hi, So my 8 mth. old girl will be getting spayed soon, she has not had her first heat yet. I am scared to death about this procedure even though its a common one. My question is what do I need to know prior to surgery. I have heard to use only certain anestisia (did I spell that right) and thats about all I know. What else should I tell her vet? I want this procedure to go nice and smooth as we all do. Oh and she weighs 4.5 lbs if that helps. Mimi |

| Chewy was just spayed on dec 1st. Her vet used gas instead of injection...he explained that it will wake her up faster. I dont know much about it though. I have another thread on here about how her behavior changed after we came home but people are saying its temporary. I think it may just have been traumatic for her because shes been through a lot since i got her. You just really have to watch her the first night you bring her home, not let her jump and make sure she gets water!!!!! Mine wouldnt touch water so i have to give it to her through a syringe. But the next morning she woke up sooo hungry that she gobbled down all her breakfast and drank half her water dish. I would say just keep an eye on her maybe get it done on a day when you could stay with her the next day and watch for any irregularities such as bleeding or pussing on the stiches. Im sure shell be fine as everyone on here says they bounce back really quickly and are back to playing before you know it. Good luck marina |

| I'm with you. Gracie is getting spayed on 12/20. I will be happy when it is over and she is all healed and back to her old self.

| good luck with your spaying to your baby and Gracie. I just had Maggie spayed and microchipped November 31st. got her stitches out this past friday ( day before yesterday). She only had 2 stitches (sutures) and she did great and I just kept her and kizzy separated for a couple of days partly because kizzy is 10 lbs and plays rough. then I let them play some but kept a close eye on them and finally i just let them go play however they wanted to. She is almost 4 1/2 lbs and she is doing great. so good luck to both of your furbabies and I feel sure it will all be fine. I'm glad its over and you will be too.

| Got LillyBelle spayed in October. She weighed 4lbs. Like you, I was REALLY nervous about it. She did terrific. I'll tell you how it went for us. I took her early about 7am, my vet did the liver studies to make sure she could do okay w/anesthesia, the vet called me at home, at about 9:30 and told me that she did great in surgery, was waking up. I picked her up at 3pm, along with 4 syringes of pain medication not shots, but liquid to be given by mouth.(dont know if that is routine-but I did ask for it prior to surgery) . i brought her carrier and gently placed her in for the ride home, her doctor gave me thorough instructions before leaving. Once home she was sleepy, I had purchased some "premie" little pink onsies that snap at the bottom and put her in one to keep her from licking her surgery site, and layed her down to sleep. She looked like a tiny pink doll. She did get up later and drank a little water, I give her some can nutra natural food and took her out, she WET!, then gave her medication and back to sleep she went. The next day she was still a little sleepy but happy-I gave her a syringe of pain medication daily x4. I was given written instructions for her care when i picked her up. Her stitches were dissolvable, so we never had to go back to the doctor...No bath for 7-10 days. She did super. Not one problem at all. I took vaction that week so I was right with her. Really she was back to herself in about 4-5days. |
