| I thought I was being pretty good about it. I let her run around and they played with her - and picked her up. Everytime I cautioned the, when they picked her up (b/c she is so squirmy) they acted like I was being irrational. Like okay - who has to take care of her if she has to get hurt? I wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to her, as she is my responsibility! Also - you don't coax someones dog to jump from places, especially when the dog herself is hesitant! Obviously there is a reason if my little baby looks concerned about jumping herself. Oh well - you know what, that's fine right? We can all be over protective snobs, and these people won't understand til they have a furbaby of their own! Love you peeps!

| No, you are not being over protective. When they are puppies they are fragile because they can get stepped on accidently if they get under a person's feet. People have given my Yorkie's all kind of crap to eat, I don't trust anyone to watch them. I let this lady baby sit them when I went away for the weekend. When I went to pick them up they were in the backyard with cheese corn all around them on the ground. I know they ate the dam stuff. What could I say? She watched them for free. I just won't let her watch them again. Sounds like your relatives know how to push your buttons. Stand your ground and good luck. They are tough little dogs once they grow up! |

You are correct about the jumping. They have to learn to get down off the couch, the bed, stairs. They don't know to put their feet down to catch themselves, they have to learn it. You are not overprotective, you are not a b**ch, you are right!! You are correct about the diet. Some Yorkie's have very sensitive tummy's and get upset quickly. They can also get over stressed quickly. You must have been a wreck with worry. You handled it well, sounds like they were ganging up on you. They are your family, families are supposed to support each other. If this is the first small pup in your family, maybe they all need to learn about these wonderful terrier's. Start to look forward, and if that means you have to be firm with your family then that's what you have to do. You have taken on a giant responsibility in raising a small baby. You are doing a great job, you are one of us!!!

| You know a week after I got Chewy, My daughter and Isaw a woman in pet smart that had a small pom and it had a broken leg...I asked her how it happened and she said they had onlly had the dog a few hours when the kids put it on the ottoman and let it jump off!!! it broke it's leg!!! After that I realized I was not being overprotective AT ALL!!!! Stick to your guns and guard your baby from the rest of your family!!!

| Bravo! You sound like a great yorkie mommy! I am lucky that my Lucy was not the first small dog in the family, my sister has a tiny pomeranian. You do what you have to do to protect your baby. The only person responsible for your baby is you. Keep up the good work!

| I gave up a "friend" because she liked to pat Daisy with a hard rib-echoing pat like she gave her German shepard. I asked her twice to stop hitting her so hard and she replied that it wasn't hurting her. I was fuming. Another time she tried to give Daisy a whole jelly bean. I told her that I don't let Daisy eat candy and I would never take a chance of giving her something like a jelly bean that she could choke on. My friend told me that I was being overprotective of her. I told her off and we have not spoken since. This is a grown woman and she should know better. I know your situation is different because it is family and you can't just give them up but I would do as someone else suggested, pick up the pup and head for the bedroom. You are right to protect your baby. If we don't protect them then who will?

| YT 3000 Club Member | I do not blame you for being overprotective, they are fragile little dogs, and they can get sick on alot of stuff because they are so much smaller. The jumping on and off stuff as well, I think your family is not being very supportive and should enjoy the little one, after all she is your baby, we have to protect them, Im still protective of chester as 4 yrs old and almost 9 lbs, Im very protective, people can laugh all they want , he is my love not anyone elses. |

| Thank you so much for all of your support. I guess I am overly upset because of the way they treated me and disrespected me. It is funny because I brought her over to my grandparents (on my dad's side) and my aunts kids from his side were SO gentle with her. These kids are also the worst behaved in other situations. They would lightly pet her and wouldn't dare to pick her up. Now all of my relatives on my mom's side think I'm think overprotective psycho who won't let anyone "play" with her puppy. How frustrating! I am so glad I have YT.com!
