I gave up a "friend" because she liked to pat Daisy with a hard rib-echoing pat like she gave her German shepard. I asked her twice to stop hitting her so hard and she replied that it wasn't hurting her. I was fuming.

Another time she tried to give Daisy a whole jelly bean. I told her that I don't let Daisy eat candy and I would never take a chance of giving her something like a jelly bean that she could choke on. My friend told me that I was being overprotective of her. I told her off and we have not spoken since. This is a grown woman and she should know better. I know your situation is different because it is family and you can't just give them up but I would do as someone else suggested, pick up the pup and head for the bedroom.

You are right to protect your baby. If we don't protect them then who will?
