| He is not to young to hump. My male was doing it at 8 weeks old. We got a teddybear his size for him to hump and he has never humped our legs. Our male is neutered and still does it just not as frequently

| Good question...our 17 week old furboy has been caught doing this a few times in his exercise pen. I too thought he was too young but he has been doing this for a couple of weeks now. I have also noted that he is sexually maturing physically as well. Just 3 weeks ago the vet had to feel several times to determine if both testicles had decended but there is absolutely no doubt about it now and can be easily felt! I know we really need to have him neutered but I especially am reluctant as we lost our 5 mo. old chi/mix baby to anesthesia in Oct. and have know of several other puppies who have been lost recently to anesthesia ...and the vet uses the anesthsia recommended for small breeds. Makes one very skiddish where surgery is concerned! This might not be the best thing to do but I am trying to put it off until he is a little bigger...I just can't bear losing him!

| Humping is not always sexual it is also a sign of dominance, and can be corrected. If he is humping YOU, he clearly does not respect you as the pack leader. You need to take steps to correct that or he will develope other dominance issues. Puppies will hump their litter mates. It's not necessary to provide a sex toy for them. Just tell them to stop. I know these guys are just little but imagine if you had a full grown large breed displaying this behavior. You wouldn't allow that. |

| If you want to tell him no and try to get him not to do it thats fine. Its also okay if you want to give him a stuffed animal to hump. It is not providing him with a sex toy. Humping is not sexual it is dominance and males and females do it

You're right but when I hear of people allowing their dog to do this, the picture that comes to my mind is a huge mastiff humping a sofa. It's personal preference. I don't allow it with my dogs. | |

| MY male uses a bear! My male is 8 months old, he has a bear a little bigger than he is that we keep in his crate. He will go to that bear a couple of times a day for two or three seconds and then he's finished. He has never tried on us. That is one thing i am so worried about but so far so good. I throw the bear into the wash at least one time a week so it stay's clean. |

| When we were at the breeders to pick up our little guy, one of the male dogs tried to hump the puppy several times while we were there. She also told us that it is a dominance thing. |

| Rebel is 12 weeks old and he's been humping a stuffed lamb. I picked him up and told him no, but I felt better when I put the lamb up.

| My puppy did this at 8 weeks of age...... And --- it really doesn't matter whether it's a "sex thing" or not. It is undesirable behavior and you should just stop it every time. I didn't get my little boy neutered until he was about a year old. Humping never was a favorite past time of his --not a real problem. But, I can say that I never see him doing it now. As a pup - whenever it did it - I stopped him immediately. Firmly told him, "No NO" -- and found other things for him to do. Good luck! Carol Jean |

| I never bought my male any stuffed animals bc I didn't want him to "learn" how to hump or think that it was ok when we weren't looking. Whenever he would try to hump anything else, we would always scold him. We also got him neutered early, at 5 months of age. He is 14 months old now and he hasn't humped anything in I don't know how long. If I were you, I would punish him for humping things, I would not buy him any stuffed animals, and I would find another vet that will neuter him ASAP. But that is just me. |

| I don't think you need to neuter your little guy ASAP -- Mine did some humping - even at 8 weeks - which I discourage right from the start - and I did take his little stuffed bunny away - that he loved to hump. But -- I didn't neuter him until he was 11 months old (because I wanted him to lose his baby teeth naturally - and he did - all but two). He's 14 months old now - and really hasn't humped much since he was a few months old --long before he was neutered. I just stopped it immediately everytime I saw him doing it..... HOWEVER - I am sure all our dogs are different as far as their libidos go....some are far more into humping that others are. So this may be something we need to consider also. Carol Jean |
