Was she expensive if you don't mind me asking, I'm not familiar with the silky terrier, I've heard about them.

well she was 800 and 225 to ship from MO and wont be ready til dec 22nd, but i think the price is alil expensive for a silky because she is going to be tiny, because ive seen some silkies that are like 300-600 but i just fell in love with her.

i hope you did your research on silkies cause there temperment is completely different then yorkies if you didnt like the hyperness of your old dogs you wont like a silky they are Hyper for at least the first 2 years of life and they are hard headeed can be hard to train i hope your not just getting it cause silkies are cheaper then yorkies but look alike
good luck

oh no believe me i live close to pasadena california where everyone want a yorkie so i have gone to sooo many pet shops that have yorkie pups any where from $1000-2000 so if i wanted a yorkie from there i woulda already bought one or put it on my bf's credit and then paid him back, its just that im a big face person thats the first thing i look at a puppy and this one even though i knew she wasent yorkie i loved the way she looked and her baby face, so its not that it was cheaper because it wasent plus ima get it shipped which is more, so just to clear it up for you, money wasent the factor here, when it comes to why i got a silky

I saw 3 people here on yt, that lost the mom during childbirth in less than 2 weeks. These folks were experienced too.

During their grieving process over the moms, they had to feed the puppies every 2-3 hours around the clock. One, so far has lost 2 of the puppies. Thats heartbreaking to me.

I'd actually got Venus, thinking I'd breed her and Adonis. After seeing this, I changed my mind totally. Venus will be spayed in Dec, and Adonis neutered in Jan. No way could I loose my beautiful girl! And I know Adonis would much rather have a playmate to stick around for many years.

I know very little about breeding, just what I've learned reading here, since August. But I've learned enough to know its something I can't do. C-sections aren't cheap, and loosing the mama, is more expensive than a c-secion and would break my heart.

Folks here just trying to give you the facts. I didn't believe it till this past month, when I saw 3 loose thier mama dogs.

I thought I'd dearly love to get into breeding. But I know I couldn't feed puppies every 2-3 hours while grieving the loss of another dog. Then loose puppies too, after feeding them every 2-3 hours around the clock? No way, not for me anyway.

I've learned through others here. I hope you stick around and read a lot on this before you decide to breed too. I didn't think anything could change my mind but it did.

Everyone has to start somewhere and in the beginning everyone is inexperienced but you need to do research online, ay the library talk to other breeders and then you would find out that that is too small. I just has a hard time with breeding mine and I don't know what I would have done if I would have lost my female also two of my puppies past and I did alot of research and vet's and so on...

Everyone has to start somewhere and I have found there are some rough spots along the way before you get to that 'expert' status.. My husband is an 'expert' beeder of Field Champion beagles and has been for over thirty years. last week he lost a litter of ten beaglee puppies.
Agreed!!! Newbie too, but I'm dedicated, independant and I work-from-home.

Breding is a BIG responsibility and you may not profit from it and it is expensive, especially of you run into complications, I know!!!

i am at home all the time too and was right beside my girl during whelping and days before. I am supplementing my puppies twice a day now only because I have a couple of small ones. My litter and mommy is doing great. A far cry from my first breeding experience where my Silk almost died, had to have a section, then only two puppies. One was deformed and dead. As far as making a profit, I don't know when, if ever, I will. I have at least five thousand dollars and closer to six just to purchase my dogs. That doesn't count all the other stuff and medical bills. i probably have ten thousand tied up right now .

You made the right decision. It is just not worth it when all you want is one pup from the litter anyway and she is going to be too small. Just enjoy your little dog

are you willing to risk her life? You have to keep in mind, did you buy her for a pet or to breed? If you bought her to breed, then you should have done more research before you bought the runt. 3 pounds is way to small and it would probably kill her if you bred her.

I wasn't going to take a chance on losing my girls to a pregnancy. Both my girls are spayed. Leave breeding to the pro's. I thought about Misha my maltese. Oh how cute for her to have a baby, carry on her legacy. Then I thought am I willing to loose her over it. It's always a possibility. My answer was NO. If I want another baby down the road, I'll find a reportable breeder.

Just my 2 cents - people need to SEE if their pet is breeding quality before deciding to breed

If a dog is already known to be smaller & you question the act of breeding her out of worry for her size - they WHY DO IT ??? Follow your instinct - if you think she's too small then she probably is.

So many small breeds are being OVER-bred these days because the price of puppies is so high - ...but it's also why we're seeing so many deaths.

“Just my 2 cents - people need to SEE if their pet is breeding quality before deciding to breed”

How true!

How can you be so sure your Silky will only be three pounds? Some breeders will say anything because they want to make a sale, also I heard Missouri has a lot of puppy mills, have you thoroughly checked out breeder? You seem to have fallen in love with a picture, and it may not even be the puppy they give you.
