Another person on here with a yorkie of breedable size lost the mother. Was hand feeding the pups and lost two of the pups also. Another person on here lost their mother that was breedable size after a c section. This was all recently

She is adorable.....but please, from experience, don't breed her just for the 'fun or legacy' of it!!!! I didn't breed Lily on purpose, but I didn't do enough to keep her from it......My Lily is no longer with me, she passed away Nov. 2nd due to so many complications after she had 5 puppies! There is just so many things that can go wrong and believe me, 'puppies' are not worth the hurt that you go through if something does happen to go wrong and you lose the mommy! Enjoy your baby and if later on, you want another baby, purchase another one.....

P.S. I have also lost 2 of the puppies that Lily left behind......hand feeding is sooooo hard and time-consuming and tiring and stressful and did I mention that I am really tired!!! LOL Sorry to have went on and on, but there is just so much more to think about when even consider breeding, not to mention the size of your baby......Lily was 5 1/2 pounds before she got pregnant.....too small in my eyes for someone that doesn't have experience in breeding!

You have been given some good advice and I hope you pay heed to it. it's way too soon to even think about breeding and your reason of wanting "just one puppy' is not a good reason to breed. if you are serious, then start doing research and in a couple of years you might be ready. if that is your ultimate goal, don't even purchase a tiny one. i don't mean this to be harsh or anything. based on my own experience. I have one that is too small to breed but I have had her for several months and now am so attached to her, I am keeping her anyway. not good when you are trying to start a breeding program. I have one too little and one spayed and can't part with either of them. i want another breeding female but because of these two, I have no room.

To be honest I would think that she would be larger as an adult. Most Sliky's are between 8 and 11 pounds or so. I would wait till she gets older. Besides it will be a good year or 2 before you can breed her anyway. GOod luck. She is really cute.

silky's and yorkies look alot alike the snout I think is where you will see the difference.

Google some info on your breed.

She's really cute on the picture, but 3lbs is to small to breed. I read a lot of books and internet info before I purchased my Kodak. I am about to purchase a 2nd one and am still reading to gain more knowledge of the breed. The person who sold you the puppie should've been the one to tell you not to breed her. Was she expensive if you don't mind me asking, I'm not familiar with the silky terrier, I've heard about them.

3 pounds is not silky terrier standard & its to small to breed either way
i hope you did your research on silkies cause there temperment is completely different then yorkies if you didnt like the hyperness of your old dogs you wont like a silky they are Hyper for at least the first 2 years of life and they are hard headeed can be hard to train i hope your not just getting it cause silkies are cheaper then yorkies but look alike

even experienced breeders have problems and lose moms and puppies, and i think that was a way harsh statement since those people who lost there mommies and puppies were so sick about it and loved there baby greatly...

i agree we have lost a lot of mommies and puppies recently. Not all of it, tho, has been because of inexperienced breeders. Also your "leave it to the experts" kind of bothers me being a "new breeder". Even tho I researched for what seems like forever, I learn every day and have learned a lot from you other breeders but you or none of the others got to be 'experts' automatically overnight. Everyone has to start somewhere and I have found there are some rough spots along the way before you get to that 'expert' status.. My husband is an 'expert' beeder of Field Champion beagles and has been for over thirty years. last week he lost a litter of ten beaglee puppies.
