silly new owner questions... i've been reading and reading the forums and am going cross eyed, i have some questions about my fur baby. I have a little girl yorkie named Mocha, she is almost four months old and weighs two pounds. potty training is there an average age for a yorkie to be house trained? one day it seems like she understands the concept the next day she is peeing anywhere she wants. she does make it through the night without any accidents. i take her outside every couple hours during the day and have two pee pads in the kitchen. my husband says i'm too soft on her and need to scold her when i catch her instead of quietly cleaning up her messes. i know she's young but want to make sure i'm training right and not confusing her. home alone - how old was your yorkie once you started leaving them home alone? the only time i don't take Mocha with me is for grocery shopping and to work. two days a week i work seven hours, so my parents puppy sit Mocha for me. i plan to have her fixed at six months if our vet says it's alright and thought after she is all healed i might try leaving her home alone those two days. grooming - how do you get them use to the clippers and teach them to stay still? she is great for her bath and for brushing, but try to do her nails or trim her hair and i need more hands. i guess i'm just afraid i'll hurt her, i'm not use to such a tiny pup. our other dog is a sheltie and i just didn't have these issues with her. i think i need more training than Mocha

No question is dumb! Have you checked in the training section? Thats where I got all of my information from. I've seen pups here get it at 10 weeks, and some not get it over a year old. She will get it, but you have to be very consistant with this. Keep her convined to an ex-pen, or one room, with the pee pads there. I kept Venus in a pen, till she was using the pads with no mistake, then she started climbing out of the pen. Now I keep her confined to the kitchen a good bit of the day, then at night, just the kitchen and living room. Venus is 5 months. I highly suggest looking through the training section, and even if you have to go back a few pages or more, look at some of the posts there. See if your doing something wrong, and check to see if there is something else you can do to help this. When I first started training Venus, I probably went back 4 pages in the training section, looking for every post that had anything to do with potty training. There is also a search engine on the dark blue line that starts with "User CP"....keep going across, its the 3rd from the end on the right. I use the search engine probably 4 times a day looking for stuff, and find what I'm looking for!

potty training is there an average age for a yorkie to be house trained? Some yorkies take longer than others to be potty trained. You have the advantage of being at home with your little one all day almost everyday. The key to potty training these little guys is consistency and persistence. You have to watch them like a hawk! If you let her get away with pottying inside even a few times, she will think that it is always ok to potty inside. Just be patient, and extremely consistent! Reward good behavior and punish bad bahavior. home alone - how old was your yorkie once you started leaving them home alone? We started leaving our little ones at home alone after a week. But never with free run of the house. There is just too many things that they can get into and really hurt themself. I would start while she is young leaving her by herself some. If you wait until she is older, she is very likely to have severe separation anxiety issues. It is fine to leave her at home alone while you are at work, but I would not leave her more than 4 hours at a time. Can someone come over and let her out once or twice while you are at work? Can you come home for lunch? Just make sure when you are leaving her home alone that she is confined either in an x-pen or crate. grooming - how do you get them use to the clippers and teach them to stay still? It just takes time. Like the potty training, just be patient and consistent and she will eventuall learn to behave while being groomed.
