| Chloe wont quit barking and my head is throbbing I have a huge headache and Chloe will not quit barking at Penny over a toy. I hate that! The only way to get her to stop is to take the toy away from Penny and to put it up but thats not fair and Im not taking the easy way out anymore at the expense of poor penny becuase of the spoiled little princes Chloe. So how in the heck do I get her to shut up? My head hurts so bad

| I get mine to quit barking by clapping my hands together and saying no barking

Maybe I can try that. CHloe just does not listen to me for longer than 5 seconds. I tell her 'no' in a firm voice and she will stop and look at me for a few seconds and actually be quiet, but then I turn around and she starts it up again. I think she has A.D.D.

| Somehow my husband taught Riley to 'use his inside voice' so when he wants to bark his little head off at something he will actually seek out a soft toy, hold it in his mouth and bark away. It's still a bark but it's muffled by the toy so it's not so annoying. When we come home and go to unlock the door we can see him running around looking for a soft toy to greet us with, he just about wiggles himself inside out with pure happiness while barking through his toy...it's hilarious! Maybe you could teach Chloe to use her inside voice too. |

| Well here's something i got of a book i own...I tryed this with my oldest dog Snuggles and i only had to do this 3 times and the problem was solved When a dog continues to bark After sounding his alarm and being calmed down, if he/she still continues to bark excitedly, speak directly to him/her with a commanding "Quite!" if he/she still doesn't get the idea, demonstrate by dabbing a little lemon juice on his/her tongue and holding his/her mouth closed (being careful not to cut his/her breathing passages) for a moment. Remember that you're teaching, not punishing, so don't further excite him/her by yelling or hitting him/her. Release him/her when he/she is calm again, letting him/her know everything is all right...

| It may not seem fair to one dog to take its toy away because it makes the other dog bark --- but I would. I'd just find them something else to do - that doesn't cause barking. Personally - I think the more you let a dog bark - the more it is going to bark. From the get-go - I have always done whatever I needed to do to discourage or stop barking with any of my dogs. And - my dogs rarely bark today. *** I'd have a headache too. Good luck - Carol Jean |
