Somehow my husband taught Riley to 'use his inside voice' so when he wants to bark his little head off at something he will actually seek out a soft toy, hold it in his mouth and bark away. It's still a bark but it's muffled by the toy so it's not so annoying. When we come home and go to unlock the door we can see him running around looking for a soft toy to greet us with, he just about wiggles himself inside out with pure happiness while barking through his toy...it's hilarious! Maybe you could teach Chloe to use her inside voice too.
