Yes , the Yorkie survived . Someone , took him from the place he was and took him to the rescue shelter . Owners have been informed that he was there but they never showed up . I'll be place for adoption if the owners are not interested to have him back under few conditions . | |

| Here is my Story. I wanted a Yorkie ever since I was a lil girl, my parents never let me have a dog, my hubby said no way will I spent that much on a dog. In November Hubby came home from Iraq, he said you had a hard time while I was gone ( we have 4 skin kids), what do you want? I said you know what I want... but did not get my hopes up. He came home with a Yorkie puppy, I was estatic,, thrilled, call me high even, it was a little boy 12 weeks old and 1.5 lbs. He would not stop licking me and fallowing me, it was love at first sight for both of us. We took him to the vet and he seemed fine. A weelk later he started to vormit, took him to the ER, he stayed over night and in the morning I got a call from the vet, Prinz did not make it. They did an autopsy, he had water on his lungs and his liver looked like that of an old dog. I cried and cried. Hubby got him at a pet store and was told he came from a local breeder. We went to the pet store, they got in contact with the vet to confirm. They paid all of our vet bills. Since they had no money back gurantee, all they could do is give us another puppy. I did not know what to do, either take the loss of $1600 or get a new puppy. We decided to get a new puppy, took her to the vet the next day, she had kennel cough and ear mites. Gave the kennel cough to my other three dogs and the neighbors two dogs, my silky got it so bad he had tobe in the ER for 2 days. She is fine now at 5.5 months but I am very worried what the future will hold, I could not stand loosing her to an early death ![]() Is there any way I can find out where she came from? I sent her papers to register her off like 3 weeks ago.

| I have to admit I have purchased a few animals from a pet store in my lifetime. All but one was very healthy. I was not aware, way back then, about the big business puppy mill issue. I thought I was helping out the poor things by taking them home. After doing some research, I now realize how horrible it is for the parents, and I do believe purchasing from pet stores will encourage this to continue. I will never ever buy another pet from a pet store. It's difficult but I have to walk past them now. On the other hand, I also have purchased from a private breeder, saw the parents and had horrible experiences with the puppy I purchased. (not a yorkie, but an old english mastiff). In this economy it's very discouraging to think I will not be able to own another dog because if I go to a pet store I'll be helping a puppy mill, and may not be able to afford to pay a private breeders price. I have no problem about people that rescue dogs from a shelter. I think they're wonderful people. But for me, I would like another Yorkie, see the parents, etc. I really would like to find a reliable, affordable Yorkie breeder in the Pocono area. |

| There are only a couple threads on this forum that have ever caused me to be literally nauseated, vomit in my mouth nauseated, angry nauseated, ready to walk away from it all and just pretend it don't exist nauseated, this is one of those threads. There is never, ever, ever, a good reason to purchase a puppy from a Pet Shop...yes there will always be the uneducated but those who know the truth should never, ever, ever find one damn excuse for doing so.... I will gladly post pics as to why this should not be done, they speak louder than words... NEVER EVER EVER PURCHASE FROM A PET SHOP,,,,EVER...

| People buying puppies from a pet store, paying 1500.00-2500.00 for the baby....you have to be told, THE PET STORE bought that puppy from a puppy mill or a byb who is just interested in $$$$$, and dumping the babies as quickly as possible, usually around 5 weeks of age. The pet store buys cheap dogs of questionable lineage, they are registered APRI and then the price the pet store got this puppy for, is doubled or tripled, so the pet store makes a profit. The cheap price the byb got for their puppy, was all profit for them, because they dumped the pups without any vaccinations, microchiping, etc. Worming is cheap, so not much is lost there....first set of vaccinations is the only real expense the byb has to absorb. I have been approached by pet stores to go "into business" with them...they would buy any puppy I had, guaranteed, for as long as I wanted to sell to them. They understood my dogs were "higher quality" so they would pay me up to 1000.00 per puppy, because they knew they could double that price to sell to customers.....so there you have it. I tell them I can not default on my integrity and do that.....but that is the hook they use to catch people that are just interested in incubating puppies for profit. |

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Well things have changed in 6 years, most of us know now that buying from a pet store is a bad thing, but unfortunately, Snow Wa was correct in many ways, the puppy mills continued and even got worse. Why? Many pet stores have indeed stoped selling dogs, but people have turned to the internet. Dogs d sold directly to the public do not need to be covered under any type of breeding license, so these commercial breeders have no inspections. The way to help close these down is to stop buying dogs over the internet! Get to know your breeder personally and visit to see how breeding dogs are being raised.

I think websites are great for showing pictures of available puppies and their parents (I even had a website). There isn't anything wrong with it but you should still go to the breeder's to see for yourself how they are raised. At the very least look for references from people that have been to the actual breeder's home and seen for themselves all the dogs and the environment they are living in. I found all my yorkies online from a website but I visited each breeder to see for myself the environment they were raised in. But so many just assume that a nice website automatically means a good breeder or nice environment and this isn't the case. Do your research!! You will be glad you did and so will the puppy and his/her parents!! On the flip side, I do understand people that go with their hearts. I try to avoid pet stores that sell puppies at all costs because I know how you can see a puppy and fall hopelessly in love with and at times it can be so hard to walk away.

| I will tell you what makes me mad are the people who dont do research on the yorkie breed they are part of the pet mill problem also they buy the dog because they are small and cute and six months later they are trying to rehome the dog because the dog has behavioral issues and they were to lazy to do some training or pay for some. Worse yet you sometimes see them on craigs list . Millie |
