How is a wiry coat (red leg) question, about breeding..hmmmmmm!
Well, it is like most questions on the forum...they go back to some breeder somewhere ,doing something that causes a poster to ask a question..
IS my Yorkie too big, too small, why won't my Yorkies ears go up, is my Yorkie a Yorkie, is my Yorkie show quality, why is my Yorkie silver, why is my Yorkie black, my new puppy has ear mites, worms, demodex, my Yorkie is roach back, my puppy has an underbite, overbite, my Yorkie has liver shunt, my Yorkie is not socialized, my Yorkie is aggressive and bites, my Yorkies coat won't grow, my Yorkies coat is soft, it is wooly, my fingers are tired...

LOL....and this is a great example where the difference in a breeder/pet lover and a pure pet lover come to light...as breeders we do not see it as agruing, but education and an exchange of ideas...there is nothing more fun then to be in a large group of breeders talking about Yorkies... what works and what doesn't..but I see your point as a pet lover...enough of my opinions, I will save it for the breeder.

I think it's great that breeders and pet lovers are PASSIONATE about the breed. That's the good thing. It all comes down to unconditional love for the breed. Right?

I have looked into research, pics and LOTS of info on "red legs". I do not promote the breeding of them for any reason. It's a gamble I am not willing to take when I can pair two yorkies that I know do not carry this "short wiry coat" trait.

I happen to own a 9 yr old SPAYED red leg yorkie! She is a wonderful little dog who belongs to my daughter. SPUNKY is not the word for her! She's a real sweety! But would I breed one like her? No. Red legs do not grow coat. I don't care who you are or what you try to convince me otherwise but they do not! Their pups may get "lucky" when paired with a correct coat for mating, but why would you want to risk that? Who would want that throw back in their line? Do we not hold coat as a number one factor in our breed? Yes. Is our goal as breeders to keep the breed looking like it's supposed to and DISTINGUISHABLE from all other breeds? Yes.

This is our old red leg girl... she's a spoiled girl and we love her! But we realized early on that she was NOT for breeding. You know I absolutely hate to see these kind of things "promoted" as I had a "respected" breeder tell me once that the dog in THIS picture below was the ONE dog that I SHOULD breed and that my more standard yorkies SHOULD NOT be bred. I cringe every time I think of that but please know I took it with a chuckle and a "yeah yeah" LOL!

This is my red leg girl, and her hair has never grown any longer to this day at 9 years old than you see in this pic...She was on our site for years as our "House baby and guard dog" And she is that to this day.

She is cute!!!!!!!!!!! Would you mind checking out my female and letting me know what you think she is????????? It sounds like you know what you're talking about and looking for some oppinions before her DNA comes back....thanks!!!

This is a 3 year old thread...and I haven't seen butterfly yorkie post in quite some time.

In the first pic of your pup I see more carroty/red hair on his face area than on his paws which are tan. That is what I see.

I have two, which one? Ksena, my female, is the one in question. I know my male is full Yorkie
