please help me with my yorkie

i have this 15 month old yorkie for a little over 2 weeks now which i bought from a breeder who told me he was toilet trained. well, guess what he is not at all ! what a surprise.
i am at my wits end with him.
i tried wee wee pads, he does not go on them,
i tried bringing him outside on my patio, i am in a condo and cannot be going up and down 3 flights of steps everyone 10 minutes. he goes outsideo n the patio, but he still goes in the house.
i leave him a few hours and he poops and pees in his belly band.
if he did not have that belly band on, he would pee all over the house.
he is going to be neutered at the end of the month.
now today i went out and bought him a dog littler pan, with the purina second nature dog litter. well, he will not even go into the pan, he hates when his feet touch that litter. i even bought the spray to help him go, it is scented, to make them go in that spot. nothing at all.
i now have him gated in the bathroom, which i did not for 2 weeks.
help me please. i am going nuts!

We take our 3 1/2 month old out every 2 hours and esp right after he eats. He is being crate trained and he has not messed in his crate but a few times and we were gone longer and Grayson couldn't help it. Dogs don't like to mess where they sleep.

Hi - the ONLY way I've gotten my yorkies potty trained was to babygate them in my bathroom (I have 4) and put piddle pads down. If you are letting your baby have full run of your home that is where you are making your mistake. A baby is taught from birth from its mama not to soil its den. If you are willing to either crate them or baby gate them into an area, you'll probably never get them potty trained unless you stay at home all day and monitor them 24/7 and even then it might not work. There are several threads on this site on how to crate train. I have never crated my dogs as I cannot see putting them in such a small area for hours at a time and not being able to really move around so that is why I baby gate them when I am gone. When I am home, they do have full run of the house. But you've only had yours for 2 weeks and I'm here to tell you that it will take months or more to potty train. Patience, persistence and consistency. Just type in potty training in our search bar and you will get alot of good information ok? Good Luck and plan on this potty training to take awhile, especially since yours is older.

Did the breeder tell you how he was trained? A dog who is used to going in grass will not just automatically go on pads or vice-versa. You might have to put some grass on your patio or something. Plus, your house is different and do you know how he used to let the breeder know he needed to go out? Loki rings bells, some dogs sit by the door and bark, others scratch or whatever. Did you try crate training? Loki is housetrained but I still crate him when I am gone - what if he ate something or whatever while I was gone? It's safer and there's no chance of coming home to a mess.

The ONLY way I got Stedman trained (he goes potty outside, in the backyard) was to take him out ALL the time. I know you are in a condo, but TRY and take him out as OFTEN as you can until he get's the hang of it. I know that is hard with where you are living, but the more often you take them out, the better. EVERY SINGLE TIME you take him outside, tell him (whatever his name is...) "GO POTTY" and keep saying it ever so often until he actually goes. When he DOES go, PRAISE HIM and say "(whatever his name is) GOOD BOY!!! YOU WENT POTTY!!! GOOD BOY!!!" And then pet him and let him back inside IMMEDIATELY. If you stick to this, every single time, without fail...he will get the hang of it, I promise. It takes a little time, but it DOES work. And - do not bring him back inside UNTIL HE GOES.

Also, if he does have an accident inside the house, and HE WILL, DO NOT SAY HIS NAME, but take him over to the spot and show him what he did and say, "BAD BOY! NO POTTY!" using a stern voice, then IMMEDIATELY put him outside and tell him to "GO POTTY" (which he probably won't go again) however, this is just to let him know that he is supposed to go, OUTSIDE.

We also had to take Loki out every 10-15 mins. He went out that often FOREVER. He still needs to go out like every hour or so. In fact, he just rang his bells AGAIN! Good luck!

Exactly. I was going to say every 10-15 minutes as well, but I know that is SO HARD when you live in a condo...thats why I said as often as possible I actually had that in my post, but I went back and deleted it because I figured she'd freak out when she read it LOL.

It really is true though. I was outside with Stedman every few minutes. It's a pain...but if you are serious about getting them trained it's whats gotta be done

If he doesn't like the litter try putting the pee pads in the litter box. that is what I use.

I heard that simple solution has a spray that will entice them to go on the pad.

But first of all I would confine him to a smaller area until he gets the idea.

It takes loads and loads of patience, and just because they are trained in one persons house does not mean they are trained in every house. they also might be trained in the kitchen but not the livng room.

what makes common sense to us is not what makes sense to them. they just know where they are not allowed to pee, everything else is fair game.

So they think Oh OK you don't want me to pee here, then I'll pee over there. or I can't pee here but no one said I couldn't poop here.

They're not real logical. they only know what they have been taught.
