| Does your Yorkie eat table food? Mine wants nothing to do with his puppy food. He only wants what I'm eating. I don't know what to do. I fill his bowl and he doesn't even look at it. Last edited by lisakurth; 10-13-2006 at 08:13 AM. |

| Perhaps he's not hungry because he's eaten too much table food? J/K! Bella loves table food but I really try not to give her much. When I do, the SO always asks "Why do you buy this expensive dog food if you're going to let her eat junk???" I still like to give her Dorito's. When Bella was not eating (what I thought was enough) the vet said "She'll eat when she's hungry". |

| Have you tried moist food. Table food is really not good for them because they can get pancreatus. I do feed mine chicken and rice and scrambled eggs on occasion

| I don't feed him "junk food". I thought moist food was bad for their teeth? |

| i had a semi-similar situation.. except it involved soft food. when layla was teething she coudln't crunch her hard food so i just gave her soft and when it came time to bring back the hard food.. she wnated nothing to do with it. i just left her hard food out and i figure when she was hungry enough.. she'd eat it.. but you might want to try the dog gravy. might add something "special" to the food and your dog will be happier to eat it.. |

| If I am eating something she can have, I put a little in her bowl. I didn't want to create a 'begger'. I can eat right next to her and doesn't move. I also add warm water to her dry food along with a small amount of grated cheese to get her to eat it sometimes.

| Your yorkie is over a year old now, right? A few things you could try would be to put his food in a saucer instead of a bowl; put a little cottage cheese on the side if he likes it to get him "primed"; try different dog food brands, because he just may not like what he's getting. Also, you could boil a bit of white meat chicken and put a little of it on one side of his new plate and some dry dog food on the other side. Sometimes after eating the chicken, if he's still hungry, he will dive into the dry food next. Good luck.

| Hard food is definitely best for their teeth but if they wont eat it I would offer moist and hard. Mine eat a little bit of moist in the morning but I leave their hard out All day. That would be better than giving table food

| Yes, moist food is better than human food. In the mornings, I would mix some moist food with her hard food and see if she'll eat it. Then just leave hard food out for her the rest of the day. Another thing you can try that another YT member recommitted to me is get some of that parmesan cheese that comes in the green can that you shake on spagetti. Sprinkle just a little bit of that on her dry food and mix it up. The pieces are so small that they can't just pick out the cheese and it tends to stick to the kibble really well. Maybe this would entice her to eat her hard food. You can also try putting human food that is healthy for dogs on her dry food to try to entice her to eat it. I know that broccoli, green beans, carrots, most fruits, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, boiled chicken, and rice are all not bad for yorkies. If you mixed any of these with her hard food, it would entice her to eat her hard food. Just don't feed her from the table anymore. Put it in her bowl. |

As to the original question, the only time mine eat table food is week-ends we are at the deer camp and then it's only a scrambled egg with a bit of rice and cheese. I can't leave their hard food out as it might attract mice and, I'm sorry, but I'm NOT sharing my home up there with a field mouse!!! I'll put their hard food out but when we go to bed, it's picked up and sealed up! By scrambling an egg for them (and I drizzle just a tad bit of honey on it), at least I know they are eating something.....and I don't take them to the camp every week-end.
