| Coat Colour? To all the experts in the forum, when does a puppy changes its coat colour? How do you know whether your puppy's coat belongs to woolly, wiry, cottony or silky? I read some excerpts from the complete Yorkshire Terrier by Joan B. Gordon and Janet E. Bennnet in one of the forum threads but being new to Yorkie, I don't really understand. I have seen quite a few neighbours' Yorkies that stays in my condo area but they all look the same to me Then I also read about looking at eye colour, you know which type of coat a puppy belongs to? How does that work? Is there a scientific explanation *again, just curious* ? I attach my pup picture..he is like 13 weeks old..but a forum member said he looks older than 13 weeks old *shrug* |

| Well, I always put it this way: if it gets mats in it and you cannot comb through them, then you more than likely have a cotton coat; if you can easily comb through it without hitting any mats, then you more than likely have a silky coat. They're coat continues to change for a long, long time, but right now he has a puppy coat and they are sometimes very challenging to deal with. When it starts coming out, you will be on your way to starting his adult coat which will happen over the next several months.

| Your puppy is the cutest! How big is he?' Buddy was the correct color tan/black as a pup. He is now 2 1/2 and his color is still changing. His legs/head are a rich copper and his back is fading from black to silver or beige. I really can't tell! He never even came close to steel blue! That's the favored color. He has a very silky coat. No course hairs anywhere. |

i really can't wait for him to start changing colour i think every yorkie owner is the same in that sense as for his hair. they are pretty easy to comb, not really a lot of matting as i comb him every day. i don't know if they are easy to comb because of the type of his coat or simply because they are short and is combed through everyday. the hair on top of his back just by the tail is pretty coarse right now. | |

| aww hes a cutie id say he looks like wire to me but thats cos my tye is wire and his coat looked the same at that age but you really wont be able to tell for a while yet. if it feels course its probley wire, if it knots and feels soft and fluffy its wooly, if it dont knot and feels silky its silky, but im not sure what cotton feels like. could be he has a bit of this and a bit of that. my annie does.
