Well, I always put it this way: if it gets mats in it and you cannot comb through them, then you more than likely have a cotton coat; if you can easily comb through it without hitting any mats, then you more than likely have a silky coat. They're coat continues to change for a long, long time, but right now he has a puppy coat and they are sometimes very challenging to deal with. When it starts coming out, you will be on your way to starting his adult coat which will happen over the next several months.
