| opinions on adopting second yorkie My baby Pete is 1.5yrs we've had him since he was 12wks, hes so sweet and loving (did i mention spoiled). Over the past 6 months ive been considering a second and would like to adopt in the next yr, the only thing stopping me is how Pete will react. When i originally got Pete he was on the smaller side so vaccinations took time and i was nervous about socializing him with other dogs during that time, needless to say he's a little timid around other dogs. He's never actually been aggressive just timid, and he does have a few doggie friends that he's used to and actually likes (they are all relatively calm dogs). My boyfriend and i both work at home so Pete is virtually never alone, which has helped tremendously with training, im hoping this would also work to our advantage with socializing him with a new pup. im just worried cause once i adopt im instantly attached and dont think i could re-home no matter the circumstance, i dont want to make a decision ill regret. does anyone have experience with adopting a second with an already shy guy? any training tips for introducing a new pup? please tell me theres hope |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I was in the same position last year, I had Maya my then 8 year old cranky Pom. SHe had never been around other dogs and was a bit snappish. I finally couldn't wait to have another Yorkie it had been 8 years since my last Yorkie died. So I fell in love with Cali and when she came home Maya was not happy but it took some time but now they are always together and Maya is actually better now that she has CAli here. More playful and much more sociable. Now I want another Yorkie so bad.

My furkids Donating Member | I have 2 furgirls..Sadie was 2 1/2 yrs old when Lillie came to live with us. Sadie has always been socialized with other dogs(and cats...not that she like the cat lol) She will tolerate other dogs and will play with most of them as long as they don't get in her face. It took her about a week or more to get used to Lillie...she wouldn't hurt her but, she would jump up on the furniture and just kinda watch her...Now they are best buddies. (Lillie has been here for 6 weeks now) You just have to give them time and your little guy will come around...In the matter of fact..I think this was the best thing I could have done for Sadie..she now has a little buddy!

| I echo Dawn's sentiments..........do it..........do it!!!!! You won't regret it for a second!! Gabby was 8 years old when we rescued Gage and brought him into our home. She did not like him in the beginning, would rather have had him not invade "her" space. It took a little time of adjustment but now they get along fine Let us know what you decide!! Suzi

| alright, alright ill do it. . . if i have to. jk thank you all for your responses youve given me the hope i needed. Pete is such a loving little boy the more i think about it, the more i realize it might take time but in the end he would probably love to have a little buddy. i think we'll be getting another boy. i thought it would be cute to have a little girl but my boyfriend is stuck on another boy, and since i dont really have a preference boy it shall be. |
