| What do you do? In England now, dog napping/stealing is big business and to help with identification we have our dogs either microchipped or Tattooed or both. What do you do for your dog/s in your country....do you have an alternative method of identifiying your pet or is it the same as here in the UK? |

| It's the same here, too. Another thing we have, if they aren't microchipped or tattooed, is that their rabies tag on their collar - if they have one - can be checked with the vet for identity. Of course, if they're stolen, they won't be wearing that tag any longer. That's about it.

| In Norway we use microchips and tattoos too, actually microchips are the most common nowadays. I've heard of dogs being stolen here too, especially breeds that are in demand! |

| I microchip mine. But, even when that's done it doesn't mean you'll be able to find your dog! I had 2 puppies stolen off our property and we've never seen them again. One was a German Shephard and the other was a Chocolate Lab. We were given the little lab because someone dumped her on a friend and she needed a home. We bought the GSD she she would have a playmate here on the farm. Anyway... the authorities thought the people we bought the GSD from probably stole them both to sell again. We couldn't prove it though.

| I don't want mine microchipped (personal reason) so I am as careful as I can be with watching them............I do have them with up to date tags.

| Mine are rarely out of my sight, unless I have to do errands. Then they stay at home, and my home is very secure! After being broke into once, I put up burgular bars, and secured the dead bolts on the doors. My dead bolts now go into a square steel box attached to the house frame, lol. One kick here, bring on a broken leg, not an open door. My back yard, where they go out, has part 6 foot board fence, and some 8 foot board fence. I put barbed wire on the top corners, so nobody could go over the fence. I'd had trouble with folks climbing the fence is the reason I did that. I haven't traveled with Venus yet, but when I've traveled with Adonis, and stop for gas, I put him in his Sherpa bag with a shoulder strap, and even take him in with me to pay for gas. I'm so afraid of someone stealing him. I feel sooner or later, I will microchip both of them. |

| I am thinking about getting mine microchipped or tattooed. The only way they would be able to steal my dogs is if they grabbed them from my arms or they got loose. I keep a close eye on them when I go out and I don't have to worry about them trying to steal them at home. I have the big dogs and they would have to get through them first before they could steal one of my little dogs. My bigger dogs would lay down their life to protect the little ones and can be very protective of them.

| Rocky's going to get microchipped when he gets neutered, but he's always in my site, or whomever is watching him's site. The microchip and tattooing only helps once they have been stolen, doesn't prevent anything, so I will always continue to just keep him with someone. Not only for that reason, but because who knows what he'll get into if I let him roam around by himself!

My furkids Donating Member | I don't have my girls microchipped and probably won't. I dont' live in a high crime area and the girls are never out of my site,if I have to come in the house they come with us. Right now Yorkies are the most popular toy breed in the United States (I read this in a magazine) If somebody steals an animal, even though it is microchipped, you aren't going to get it back unless they bring it to a shelter or vet to have it scanned. If they've stolen it they are not going to have it scanned. The only way I would microchip the girls is if they could be located by satellite. And let's face it....if somebody steals a yorkie they are not likely to return it.
