| Bad Breeder? PLEASE help me find out I bought my first Yorkie from a breeder in Oregon (I live in California) after talking to several breeders 6 months ago. Rexi, who I love and who is part of our family was the smallest and cutest boy of the litter weighing at just under two pounds. At the time, I knew very little about how to purchase a dog. The breeder offered to meet me half way and collect $950 which she claimed was very low. I saw all the pictures and was told he would be AKC registered. A few days before meeting up with her, she told me she would send the papers out a week later (RED FLAG), but I went ahead with it and brought Rexi home. I ended up recieving the papers 2 months later (application) and discovered the name of the breeder was different from the name of the lady who sold Rexi to me. The problem is, in the "puppy contract" we both signed, she had put breeder under her name. I was very upset by this and so I called her up. She told me she was the breeder and went into a lengthy explanation (I didn't fully understand) about how the mom was with someone else. She offered to take Rexi back for a full refund (but I was tooooo attached ) and so I told her I would settle for half the price because I would never know if he came from a puppy mill. She refused. I bluffed and told her I want a refund, and she told me she would give me one and she didn't consider me a good Dad now because I was willing to return him so easily. Fortunately, Rexi is an incredible boy and I am very happy with him. She claimed that her husband, who was a lawyer wrote the contract and so he made an honest mistake. What do you think? Rexi comes from Raptures Secret kennel which can be found online (only one incomplete page not showing any of the dogs). Should I take this lady to court? Should I file a complaint with the AKC? Money is not an issue here, it is the principle. I am willing to spend anything to prevent her from doing this to anyone else if her husband didnt' really make an "honest mistake". | Hi, what a terrible situation. By no means would I give her back the puppy, because you don't know where he will end up. There is not much more help that I can give you, but I did read a thread, don't know where, that was AKC bad breeders list. It showed the breeders that were on their suspended list for one reason or another. I'll have to go and see if I can find it, maybe you can complain to them in writing (AKC) and something might be done if she knows that you did this. Taking her to court seems like it would be too time consuming and $$$ and the way these judges are anymore since she offered you the money back and you turned it down there probably wouldn't be much else the judge would do. Just my opinion. |

| Complain to the AKC and threaten small claims court if you have the time and resources. Breeders such as the one you experienced really give the good breeders a bad name! |

| Like posted I would complain to AKC and also contact the ASPC and any other orginization that is around where she lives. What is the truth and what isn't. Maybe contact the breeder on his papers and act like you are looking for a puppy and see what they have to say. We all live and learn, one good thing is Rexi has a great home and is loved............Cindy |

| I contacted the AKC today AKC gave me the address to a complaints section where I will be sending the contract I signed with the broker( showing her full name under the title "breeder") and the application form signed by the actual breeder. Thanks for the advice; I will be contacting the ASPC to prevent this from happening again. As a first time Yorkie owner, I can say with no doubt that they have amazing personalities. I mean, when we go to my restaurant, before we get out of the car, he knows the cooks have treats waiting for him. I have no doubt his siblings are just as smart as Rexi and it hurts me to think how they are being treated right now. Once AKC completes their investigation, I will post the breeders name and contact information as well as the broker who claims she is a breeder on this site. In fact, I believe it would be nice to make a list of bad breeders/brokers on this web site.... of course putting someone on the list would require an investigation to be completed first. This would at least hurt some of their business.[FONT=Comic Sans MS] |
