| Why we breed....... I posted this in my "for sale" thread but it was such a nice email I thought I'd post it in the general forum....... We received an email from Toby's (formerly Caesar) new owners today and I thought I'd share it. Mr and Mrs. White picked Caesar up on Wednesday and we received this wonderful email today. Note: The reference she makes is to a puppy training pad. All of our puppies are trained to use these pads to go to the bathroom rather than in the house on the carpet or floor. THIS is why we breed. To see the joy that our Yorkies bring to others makes us the happiest people in the world. Subject: thank you from the White's Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 9:47 EST From: Nanci White Good Morning, Just wanted to let you know our first day was great. He is such a precious and playful pup, and loves a good nap. I can't describe in words the happiness this has brought my daughter and us as well. My mother recently died and I didn't think I could feel joy again like I did yesterday. He adjusted well, explored his new house, enjoyed a few visitors, didn't eat too much, just a little bit, did drink though. I had him in the crate last night and he cried when he had to go potty on the pad. Then the little bugger kept crying and crying and we couldn't figure out what was wrong, we kept bringing him down to where his pen was to see if he had to go some more. And my daughter says, (mind you this is at 1 am) maybe he wants his soft furry bed cushion in his crate. Ok, let's try, well, that was it, the little prince just wanted the sleep in luxury. He had a super appetite this morning and the two of them are doing some serious bonding. Priceless. I am sure you hear this all the time, but thank you for what you do, and for allowing us to have this little guy. I just wanted to let you know how smooth things went. Thanks again, Nanci and Chuck

| I agree so much!!! Sadly and Happily, I have had 3 emails this month from people who bought my puppies, the ages were 15, 15, and 16 yrs old. All had gone to Rainbow Bridge..I was able to find two pups from my girls who live with friends..the other is on a list. When people remember you after that many years and go hunting for you...and I have moved to Florida, then you feel very, very good about what you have done for the breed. This is why selling to pet shops boggles my mind, why miss the best reason for breeding? Best wishes |

| Exactly. We are very careful about placing our puppies in homes with children. In this case the mother's sister has a Yorkie and their daughter is used to being careful because of their small size. Watching her with Toby (Caesar), we were convinced that she is careful enough not to harm him. She knows he isn't a "toy". And to see the happiness in their faces makes it all worth the care we take in raising and placing our puppies.

| That picture IS priceless!!! What an adorable little girl, and what an adorable little dog!!! I understand the hesitation to place small dogs in families with kids, and as the mom of two rambunctuous little boys (7 and 11) I had my qualms as well, esp. about accepting Mazie who will probably never top three pounds. But my kids have been GREAT with the yorkies!! They are so careful and gentle, and are always looking out for them. For that matter, all their little friends trooping in and out have always been great as well. And OH, what joy is spread! Everyone loves "the little dogs"! (this would be a good thread for the breeder's forum!)

| Exactly. We want to be careful where we place our babies. If they have children we try our best to be sure the children understand and respect animals and how to handle small yorkies. We had someone at our home looking at a puppy a few weeks ago, she didn't even hold a puppy. Her children (son and daughter) were young (about 4 - 5 yrs old) and they were holding the puppies (we handed the puppies to them while they were sitting). We were very careful about this situation as the woman asked questions but didn't seem interested in the puppies themselves. Adalaid walked up to her on the couch and sat next to the woman and she more or less ignored Adalaid. I just didn't get a good vibe from her not to mention some other issues such as her telling me her lab would dig under her fence and they wouldn't realize it was gone until hours later. After we put the puppies back her son (about 4 yrs old) decided to jump up and down on our couch while she asked us questions. She saw him and didn't say anything, just keep talking to us. Meanwhile I was watching the behavior and decided I didn't want to place one of my babies with her. I gave her a strong indication that I didn't think a yorkie would be a good dog for her situation. I think she understood the point because she was like "Oh, um, ok" and left. I don't care what she would have offered either. A couple offered us $10k for Brydei from our last litter (they bought Bentley and wanted another puppy). We already had decided to keep Brydei for future breeding and had to decline the offer. We did arrange an agreement between our co-breeder (who had received Briar as a stud service fee) and the family, to sell them Briar.

| I need to chime in here too. I just sold 3 puppies, and one has gone to his new home so far, but I am SOOOOO confident in the people I chose for my puppies. I KNOW there are bad breeders, but I think there are also just as many BAD customers!!! I had people call me thinking they were buying a car. Like someone called and said, I will come over right now with XXX$ in cash if you will accept it. Like as if I was selling a car. I explained to him that just because you have cash, doesn't mean you are the best person for the puppy. I don't just sell my puppies to the first person with cash! I was so hurt and disgusted! Then he called back and said, OK, I will come with the amount you asked, and i again explained that this is not the way I choose my families for my puppies. He sounded like an 18 yr old punk! I also had someone come over to see the pups with their 6 yr old girl. I told her that I did not want her to pick up the puppies. If she wanted to pet one, to tell me and I would pick up the puppy for her and let her pet him/her. Well wouldn't you know as soon as I turn my back for a second, she picks up a pup and the nail gets caught on her dress. Then the Lady puts the puppy on the Guy's lap, who is sprawled out on my couch, and he says "yeah, its fine", and then the puppy crawls in between his legs, and I am waiting for him to help the puppy as he is now inching towards the end of the seat and I was afraid he would fall to the ground, so I am waiting, and he refuses to help the puppy, so I finally picked up the puppy from between his legs, and said "we wouldn't want the puppy to fall and get hurt now would we!" Needless to say, i decided NOT to sell the puppy to them either. Then an older woman came who was happy to hand over the money and take the puppy regardless of the age, or weight, and said she just wanted to make sure she could see the pup so she doesn't sit or step on the poor baby. And didn't wanted me to ensure the pup wouldn't move too fast for her. Again, not a good match! And how about the Mother and Daughter that came and the Mother was sooooo concerned as to whether the pup would EVER have an accident on her carpet and I should make sure the puppy was fully trained by 8 to 10weeks, and that they would be leaving the puppy in a cage for 14 to 15 hours a day! And last would be all the people that called saying they were looking for a teacup that would be under a pound full grown!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!! I am sooooooo happy that I was selective with the process and got GREAT families for my babies, even if it did mean lowering the price to have a better selection of families!!! |

| I can't describe how happy that email made us. I know most new owners are overjoyed but I know how much Toby means to the Whites and you can't put a price on THAT. To bring that type of joy to someone else is priceless. To be able to see the look on the little girl's face makes us KNOW we've made the right decision when we decided to become breeders
