i dont walk any of mine at all cos they dont like it, brandi dont like cars not sure why cos shes a rescue and to get to any park we have to walk past cars, tye has asthma and going for a walk makes him worse, zac is going blind so gets a bit nervy with car noises, tye and zac would also prefer going for a car ride than walk and they have always been like that since pups. and annie well ive had her since easter and the lady who had her b4 me said annie doesnt like walking and trust me she wasnt wrong lol she wont even walk in the garden she takes two steps then has a sit down then a few more steps and sits down lol im training her on a lead at the mo to walk around the garden and she just sits down and wont move lol so as you can see none of mine like walking much. also kind of gladed about it cos there is a lot of dog-napping in kent where i live and the people follow the dog and the owner home then come back later and steal the dog so mine are safer being lazy lol

I can't just "go"for a walk cause I have two little kids who can't be left alone in the house and they get up between 6-7 AM and I ain't getting up earlier than that...During the day Zoie goes out in the fenced backyard to play and potty. We take her with us on walks through the neighborhood when we got, but since our 2 year old son walks so slow and since he can't walk that far without wanting to be carried, we don't walk too far. We did take a decent walk last week and Zoie was GREAT. She didn't get too tired I don't think, she did get a big drink when we got home but I was suprised she wasn't worn flat out, she' so little!! She wants to drag behind alot and sniff everyone's yards. She doesn't always enjoy the walking part. She wants to dawdle. LOL

Howie goes on a walk at least once a day. Nothing crazy, just a little stroll around the development. This morning I decided to take him for a walk and we got half way through our normal walk when he stopped walking and scratched at my leg as if to say "Pick me up mom!!" So I had to carry him the rest of the way and I imagine I looked pretty silly!!

I attempted to walk Rocky today, but as we began another puppy was being walked and Rocky ended up making a new friend, Max the 11mo old cairn terrior..TOTO!! LOL. As I tried to walk him he kept reaching forward for Max, and Max kept pulling back to him, so we walked up the street and back. Hopefully tomarrow there won't be any distractions.

I'm glad to hear that people are taking their dogs on long walks. I was always afraid that I was walking my dog for too long. We walk 25-30 minutes in the morning and about 2-2.5 miles in the evening when it is getting dark. She seems to love her walks. How can you tell when the walk is too long? She hardly ever shows she's tired.

Schatzi LOVES her walks....in the morning my hubby and I take her for a 1 mile jog and in the evening we go for a 2 mile walk. She likes jogging WAY more than walking....unfortunately....

Maddie is potty trained to outside only and never allowed to roam freely in the house. she is crated trained. Her crate is in the family room and I have it blocked off she that when she is out she is only in one room and we are all there watching. She is doing great. I do let her run around a little in the rest of the house as long as I can totally watch her. She is 5month old now, but I got her at 12 weeks and that what I have done all along.

Well, they're all different, but when Ginger's had enough (and that's rare), she looks for a soft spot and lays down! lol

Seriously, though, walking is good for them. Take water along just in case, and maybe a few cheerios...

What about the rain? I tend to pass in the rain, unless it's a really light summer rain.

We always went in the winter, too, unless it was just way too cold for her. We'd go on the pavement where the snow is melted. It's a housing development and there aren't that many cars. Muffin used to love it. Now, last winter was Kacee's first winter, but it was so mild that it didn't seem like winter. I think it was 70 in January! We were walking without jackets in January! I pass in the rain, too, because their tummies get nasty.

As i responded earlier in the post, mine love to walk, but as far as going potty... mine are both on pee pee pads. I use cloth ones in their playpens and we use disposal ones in the family room for daytime pp's. Our walks are only for pleasure & sightseeing

On walks Chloe pp's every foot of the walk (probably not that often but it seems so) and Sissy waits till we get home. Both wait for #2 till we get home and Chloe has just realized this past month that it is ok to go #2 in our yard. (at first I had to bring out a disposable pad with me to show her it was ok)Yard or pad, it is so easy with their tootsie roll size poo to just pick it up with a tissue & flush. When I outweight the pads vs outside, I don't feel I made a mistake for our lifestyle, afterall I do NOT want to be the one to go for walks at 10PM in the freezing cold

I only own my 1st Yorkie for 1 year and 1 month, and our baby Yorkie is 4 months. With both this is how I trained them.

Playpen from the time she woke up, ate and did her potty. When my eyes could be on her, she ran lost thru the house but on wood floors only. (no carpets) I would leave the door open to the playpen, as soon as she would go thru that door and potty on the pad inside her playpen, it was time to give her run of that end of the house, even while I was dosing in my chair or doing dishes. She was ready. We did the same one with #2 Yorkie (now only 4 months old & trained 75%) The only difference is we bought another playpen, have 2 connected and a panel in between, so altho they are together, they also have their own space within the playpen. They are great together and apart. Chloe has had enough of the puppy by 1-PM, so at this point Sissy goes to the small crate next to my bed (Chloe's old bedtime place) and Chloe sleeps with me in my bed (which she totally tries to push me out of)

They both run for the P.pad for both "duties" but if Sissy had her own way, she would be in bed with us at night. I think it is important to not allow that for Chloe's sake, (until she is older) Chloe hasn't shown signs of jealousy and loves Sissy. (Maybe this is why?) They both sleep together for naps when I am home, they look like a Daniel Boone hat without the tail (my atvitar right now shows them curled together)
