| Question about owning 2 yorkies Hello, As some of you may know, I just rescued a yorkie pup today but I realized that my Zoe (first yorkie) is having trouble adapting to Trooper (new yorkie). Do I need to separate toys? Should I be favoring Zoe in the beginning? I feel really bad for Zoe. I feel like he thinks I betrayed him. Whatever Trooper touches, he wont touch even though its his, even his bed. Trooper on the other hand is a very jealous dog. He cries whenever I carry zoe and come over which make zoe leave. I have a headache.

| I read somewhere that the dog already in residence should recieve special attention so that he doesn't feel that he's being replaced..especially if he's an older dog. I'm sure they'll be friends before long.

| Definitely show Zoe even more attention if anything - it is important to make him feel like he is not being replaced. When you give treats - Zoe should receive his treat first, then Trooper (Trooper isn't going to get upset by this - he'll be happy just to get a treat!). Try to keep Zoe's routine as similar as possible. I brought home a new baby girl last monday and she sleeps in her ex-pen in my room and Oscar sleeps in my bed with me - just like he did before - I didn't want him to feel like he was being punished by putting him back down just because she came along. I try to focus a lot of attention on him - obviously it's hard when I've got a teeny puppy running around with her own needs too, but I make it work. After about a week I think you'll notice they'll start to get along better and play. I wouldn't bother separating toys - I think it would be impossible to 'govern' over the toys and whose toys are whose; they'll have fun fighting over them and having tug wars.

| Maybe try to treat Zoe the same as if you were bringing a new human baby home? Give him lots of extra attention to let him know you still love him just as much as you ever did. Good luck!! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | when I got Cali last year,, it was the first time I ever had 2 dogs at the same time and Maya was 8 years old and a cranky territorial Pomeranian. I just gave her extra treats and since Cali needed to be fed more often, I split Maya's food up into how ever many feedings Cali was getting, because I felt so bad feeding the new one and not her. I even bought them the same toys even though Maya hasn't played with toys in years. I still say hello to Maya first whenever I come home. They have their little arguements but they lay togther now and seem to miss each other when one is gone. Just give it time they will be good friends soon.
