| Please help my yorkie to sleep! I got my little six week yorkie on the 28.07.06. I put a really large box next to my bed for her to sleep in at night (crate training). Every time she cried i picked her up into my bed and consoled her and put her back in her box, i felt really sorry for her as she is so little and i presumed she would be missing her mommy and her littermates! My hubby warned me that i was spoiling her! I have had her a week and a bit and cannot get her to sleep alone at night! She comes with me to work and lies by the heater on her bed and has no problems falling asleep by herself, but at night she is a horror and will not fall asleep unless you hold her! I would like her to sleep in the bathroom or kitchen, but i have tried both and she just screams blue murder! I put the heater on for her and i put a hot water bottle under her blankets, but she screams until i pick her up! She is driving me mad! Last night i tried ignoring her but she cried so bad im scared she will injure her heart or something! I need to get her to be alone as i am not always going to be able to take her everywhere and would like her to stay in the kitchen while im away! Should i just close the door and leave her to cry? Is this cruel and how long can i leave her alone at night? Would her lying with us in bed for a while until im ready for bed be making it worse! Please help i dont want to dislike my dog because of her bad sleeping! |

| Can't help you, both our puppies sleep with us. Misha 9 months, Piper 5 months. Sometimes I don't like it, only because our bedroom activity has gone to poop. Me & my husband don't even get to snuggle with out them both jumping between us with jealousy. We put them on the floor, or outside the bedroom and shut the door. They end up scratching the door & barking. That ends up breaking the mood also. We just have to find a way to work around them. I think going to training classes will be next for us. Sure do love our little girls, I guess we spoiled them also. |

My furkids Donating Member | I didn't have this problem with Sadie...She stayed in her crate without a peep from the first night we got her....My husband and I went on vacation and (of course) took Sadie with us...HE...didn't put her in her crate and she hopped up on the bed and slept with us.(I was already asleep)...Well...I guess you know the rest of the story...We are getting a new furbaby Saturday (YAYYY!) and I only hope and pray that she is as good a sleeper as her big fursister Sadie was when we first got her... You may have to just deal with the whinning for a couple of nights...she will get used to it....I hope!!

| They get used to, but you need to be consistent When I got my puppy, I decided I'll try the crate training also. I put the crate next to bed and the puppy ended waking up every hour or so for the first few nights..But I also realized he doesn't mind pooping in it. So the crate idea went out the window. I set up the xpen in the kitchen but keep the bedroom door open. Did he like it? no.... I started putting him there for a while during the day first to get him used to it. JJ was whining at the beginnig. But now he got used to it, it's just the matter of sticking to it and believe me, baby talking to him while he's whining doesn't help... . But now, for 3 nights hes slept through, just waking up to go on the pee pad and eat. Coz he also got the hang of the pee pad thing Yuppi!. He does seem like an easy, content puppy though Good Luck.
