| I think that you should keep her for now!! Baby's sister had an open fontanel. The breeder waited until she was a year to place her. She too was worried. She placed her in a home with no children and no other pets. She is happy and healthy and will be 3 years this August. They can lead normal lives. I wish the very best to you and your little one. |

| I think you should keep her for now, and see how she is a time to come.

| Open fontanel I've read it's common for a yorkie to have an open fontanel until they're at least 7 months old. I can feel a soft spot on my four month old yorkie and they didn't mention it at the vets. You did mention it's large but then again the puppy is only 8 weeks old. Keep her till you feel safe about her leaving, then you'll have no regrets. |

| I would keep that baby until you feel comfortable with her going to a new home.

The open fontenal may or may not close. If it does, it may be up to a year. If there is some hydrocephalic issues it is better if it doesn't as it would increase the pressure on the brain. Keep the puppy yourself. Your daughter and her very young children would not be an appropriate home for this little pup. With a large open fontenal you have to be real careful with that head. There very well could be other health issues. 8 weeks is way to young for any yorkie puppy to go to a new home anyway. The code of ethics of any YOrkie breed club does not allow puppy placements until minimum 12 weeks. | |

| I would keep her a little longer since your vet says the fontanel is pretty big.You can teach small children not to be rough ,however some kids don't listen and may sometimes think they are playing with the dog but accidents happen if kids this small are around a pup so small. I have two daughters and my daughters were 12 and 6 1/2 yrs old. I was extremely strict when it came to our yorkie that was around 1lb 4 oz when it came home. Kids drop them all the time. I have children visit all the time and I have the hardest time trying to teach little boys not to play rough with my little dogs. I usually keep my dogs in my bedroom if small children are in my house. I would not be terribly worried about the open fontanel . These things often closeup a bit more within 6 months. Just speaking from my experience. I would love to see a picture of this little furbaby! Genie, Cookie & Lola |

| Hi Dragonfly. Sorry, I didn't see your last post. But yes, that's great that you're keeping her . Please keep us updated on her progress And cookie2, I 100% agree about being strict with children around them. None of the breeders I spoke to here would allow a puppy to go to a home with children and it was one of the conditions I had to sign for when I got Badger. I've very often been in situations when I've walked him of children coming up and just picking him up without permission which is extremely annoying |
