The vet is talking about hydrocephalic and he likely would not know for sure whether or not this pup is hydrocephalic without a ultrasound. I wouldn't bother having that checked at this point. Hydrocephalic is a misconception of wher ethe fluid is, it isn't on the brain it is in the chambers of the brain. In a normal brain there is a certain amount of fluid in chambers within the brain. In hydrocephalic dogs (and people) there is more than normal amount of fluid in those chambers. It can vary to slightly more than normal to a heck of a lot more that normal. For a heck of a lot, you will see an apple dome appearance to the head.
The open fontenal may or may not close. If it does, it may be up to a year. If there is some hydrocephalic issues it is better if it doesn't as it would increase the pressure on the brain.
Keep the puppy yourself. Your daughter and her very young children would not be an appropriate home for this little pup.
With a large open fontenal you have to be real careful with that head.
There very well could be other health issues.
8 weeks is way to young for any yorkie puppy to go to a new home anyway. The code of ethics of any YOrkie breed club does not allow puppy placements until minimum 12 weeks.
