| Animal Rescue The truth is that most pet owners are not responsible enough to spay and neuter, causing more unwanted pets to be sentenced to death at a local shelter. Alot of people see that cute little puppy they just have to have, only to forget they grow up and out of that puppy stage and may look not so 'puppy face cute'... off to the shelter they'll go, or if they had too many accidents on the floor, or they chewed up something else. It drives me CRAZY to think that so many people who cant even take care of their own children try to purchase or breed animals. They wont take care of them either usually. A year ago my daughters and I decided we wanted a puppy, cute and cuddly. After researching the internet we found rescue groups, THEN we found the city pound website. I was addicted to looking several times a day, they updated their site at 7am and 4pm with new info on the animals they took in and the ones ready for adoption. You'd have to race to be the first in line at opening time to get a puppy, we had several heartbreaking trips over several weeks. And then we decided to just go and take a look one afternoon, it was pouring rain, and we needed to get out of the house. We were the only people visiting that day, I had to carry both my 4&5 yr old DDs through a foot of mucky looking run off water into the smelly kennels. It was then that I knew I could not leave without saving just one, no matter what age it would be perfect for us. We found a mangey looking, matted fur, skinny, what looked to be a poodle that was so frightened he wouldnt come to the front of the kennel; pushed around by other dogs. We asked to visit with him for a little while by the kennel guard. The kids loved him unconditionally of his looks, we adopted him that day. After several months of good diet, grooming, and love and patience he's a beautiful cocker-poo! He's so lovey and appreciative. Thanks for my ranting session, I agree 'spay and neuter' and ONLY purchase a dog if you have the mindset that it's a 'forever family member' not just a toy to be tossed aside. Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | Aww this is so sad! The amount of damage it all causes to us(humans mentally) but espeacially our forgotton furbabys! And they do know what is coming when they take them in to die. So many animals in the world unwanted i personnal have recued 3 animals from the shelter 2 cats tigger a gray white and black tabby who looks just like a white tiger and lucky a sweet black tabby we also have snickers our frisky black lab all of them have been neutered and i feel good knowing i saved them from this kind of death! with so many animals in shelters there are just not enough people to care for them we really do need to push the issue of s/n and also talk more to our legislature about puppymills! Little by littel if everyone helps mabey one day we can stop the unessasary deaths of all these poor innocent animals!

| I have to say that is the saddest thing. It was very profound. I think I will look into fostering animals from the shelters now. Yes! I think I will. Thanks for the wake up call!

good luck with that. its very hard to do. mostly because you don't want to let them go even though you know you have to. they can give you so much joy, and at least you'll know they won't be put to sleep, but it is hard letting them go when its time. i've done it and it killed me to let the babies go once they were old enough.

| I had no idea. I believe that we have a NO KILL shelter, but I am not sure. I believe the answer is more free spay and neuter clinics. The majority of the clueless people who do not spay and neuter are not able to afford it. I realize that if they can't afford it they should not get the pet, but that is not the redality. The fact of the matter is, that they do get them, and then let them breed freely becaiuse they have lots of friends who want the puppies. But when the puppies come, the friends no longer want them. Or they take them and the cycle starts all over. Our state legislature's should push for more funds for free spay and neuter clinics. Olso, if every vet in town did one free one a day, it would decrease the number of unwnted pets a thousand times over. |

Do you care to tell me more about it. I have never done it but I am certainly willing to give it a try. I have the time and energy. You can PM me or e-mail me either one. Thanks.
