Default Animal Rescue

The truth is that most pet owners are not responsible enough to spay and neuter, causing more unwanted pets to be sentenced to death at a local shelter. Alot of people see that cute little puppy they just have to have, only to forget they grow up and out of that puppy stage and may look not so 'puppy face cute'... off to the shelter they'll go, or if they had too many accidents on the floor, or they chewed up something else.

It drives me CRAZY to think that so many people who cant even take care of their own children try to purchase or breed animals. They wont take care of them either usually.

A year ago my daughters and I decided we wanted a puppy, cute and cuddly. After researching the internet we found rescue groups, THEN we found the city pound website. I was addicted to looking several times a day, they updated their site at 7am and 4pm with new info on the animals they took in and the ones ready for adoption. You'd have to race to be the first in line at opening time to get a puppy, we had several heartbreaking trips over several weeks. And then we decided to just go and take a look one afternoon, it was pouring rain, and we needed to get out of the house. We were the only people visiting that day, I had to carry both my 4&5 yr old DDs through a foot of mucky looking run off water into the smelly kennels. It was then that I knew I could not leave without saving just one, no matter what age it would be perfect for us. We found a mangey looking, matted fur, skinny, what looked to be a poodle that was so frightened he wouldnt come to the front of the kennel; pushed around by other dogs. We asked to visit with him for a little while by the kennel guard. The kids loved him unconditionally of his looks, we adopted him that day. After several months of good diet, grooming, and love and patience he's a beautiful cocker-poo! He's so lovey and appreciative.

Thanks for my ranting session, I agree 'spay and neuter' and ONLY purchase a dog if you have the mindset that it's a 'forever family member' not just a toy to be tossed aside.
