| A few weeks ago my bf's mom had Kona for the night. When I met with her she told me how all of the workers at Safeway loved Kona. I was shocked that she took her into Safeway (grocery store) and nobody said anything. Nope... they all loved Kona and asked lots of questions. I've also taken Kona to a few restaurants that have outdoor patios. At least near where I live, most places with patios don't mind dogs. Those of you who go to the mall, do you have your pup in a bag or is he/she on a leash? |

| Taking My Babies Shopping, etc. Hi... Just joined the Forum, your post inspired me to register...Thought you might be interested in the following... I will be picking up MY new (4 Month Old) baby Yorkie boy when I get back from a planned vaction...July 15. However, my daughter who lives with us just purchased a tiny Chihuahua 4 month 5 lbs. and my other daughter daughter just purchased a a 12 week old 3 lb King Charles Cavelier and I am the principal caretaker, potty and obedience trainer, and "Grammy" of my new babies. I can hardly wait until I get MY OWN little 4 month old 4 lb Yorkie boy...mid July. I always take the babies everywhere with me in their special bags that I carry like a shoulder bag....I even have a baby Puppy Bjorn. It works out great...they love having their little heads poking out taking everthing in while I run around doing my errands (I only take 1 puppy at a time). I take them to every store...shopping with me. (Department Stores, Food Shopping, Drug Stores, etc.) Most people don't even notice them. Never had a problem. There are a few restaurants (I call ahead and ask if they will allow this, if I keep him in his bag right next to me...(which he loves and sees as his "den"). Some restaurants say "yes" and some say "no" because of health laws and local ordinances. But you would be surprised at hown many say it is OK with them, as long as they can claim they didn't see him if someone complains. NOBODY minds my taking him into department stores, local convenience stores, cleaners, drug stores, etc. Remember, my son always tells me... "Mom it is much easier to ask forgiveness (like, "oh, sorry I didn't realize you would mind") than it is to ask permission in the first place. Treat it lightly and they will too. In the Large Grocery stores Stop & Shop, Shaws, etc, I put his bag in the child seat area right in front of me with him in it...poking his head out. NO one has ever said anything to me. I hope my reply has helped you. Act as if you own the place...after all as a consumer you keep them in business. People basically don't want to confront you and lose you patronage....good luck. Haven't name MY baby yet...any suggestions??? |

| Oh, wait... let me get this straight... so you guys do take your babies out. I got the feeling that some people would have requested my hanging if I even considered it! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...yorkie+stories

| [QUOTE=lolabella]Oh, wait... let me get this straight... so you guys do take your babies out. I got the feeling that some people would have requested my hanging if I even considered it![QUOTE] LOL Sometimes I think a thread goes along the vein the first person responding sets. Looks like your thread got swamped with people worrying about the health of your baby. I don't take my babies out until they have at least had their first shot. Then I don't take them where they will be exposed to lots of people and animals. Usually just out for a ride in the car. After they have had a few shots I might take them to Petsmart but never on the floor. You don't know what kind of germs are spread there. When they have had all their shots, and rabies shots too, then I allow them where there maybe stuff that they should be able to fight off. I think no one gave you the chance to say how old your baby was or if he/she had gotten any shots. It's ok, forgive and forget, or at least forget, no one meant any harm. Sylvia |

| Phoebe goes EVERYWHERE!!!! I hate that I can't take her to work with me, but outside of that, she goes everywhere with me and Hubby. Walmart, Borders Bookstore, the mall, Office Max, Michael's, A local specialty paper store, Kinkos, Blockbuster, etc. A lot of people don't notice. Or if they notice they totally gush over her. I don't take her to restaurants b/c as much as I love her, I wouldn't want to see someone else's dog at a restaurant. I have a lot of carriers for her but the one I use the most so that's she's not as noticeable is her Celltei Pak-o-pet

| I have only had my Lily a few weeks, but so far I have taken her into Walgreen's, Murdoch's (farm and ranch supply store) and Safeway . I bought a pet carrier on Ebay before I got Lily. They wouldn't let me take her into Walmart When I first got Lily she got carsick the first 3-4 rides in the car, and would shake. She now goes in the car everyday, no more carsickness and just a lil' shaking. She's definitely getting more used to it! She shakes a little bit in her carrier in the stores, but we haven't done it that much yet! Julie |

| I have taken Mya everywhere, Our doctor asks where she is if I don't show up with her, so does the dentist. She has been to several sports events. Restaurants, peoples homes, hotels even the hospital. I take her in her carry bag. Most think it is a duffle bag. Mya is very quiet, probably because I have exposed her to so many places. Yesterday at the the cottage it was thundering and lighting so I took out side in my arms and did not jump at the thunder. She was not even afraid of the fireworks. I think it is important to take your Yorkie out and about so that is not afraid of noises. I bought a simple walmart stroller and took the seat out so that her travel bag would fit in it. I take her in the malls in her stroller if it is going to be a long trip. Mya has also traveled from Toronto to Florida and back by plane and was super good. I always get compliments about her good behavior. She now learned to jump from the bed. Our little girl has grown up and now.........I would love a puppy for a play mate for her. I just have to make sure it is small enough since I will have to carry two pups around. The important thing is not to draw a crowd (hard not to with such a cute dog) or let the dog hang out of the purse/bag too much. I have had a couple of people scream like they have seen a rat....LOL I have only been asked to leave a store once in 14 months. You would think that I would be asked to leave the grocery stores but that has never happened.

| use your judgement I would take my babies everywhere if I could. Target and Walmart have kicked me out with Starsky. I've taken Starsky on a leash at an outdoor mall which allows dogs. They even offer treats and water for the dogs. We were in a mountain town 2 weekends ago and they let Starsky in every store. More relaxed in the small towns. The only problem is Starsky doesn't like shopping. He gets impatient and wants to move on, no dilly dallying. He starts to bark and tells you "Let's Go!" Last weekend we took Shylah antique shopping and everybody just loved her. I guess just use your best judgement if it will be okay or not.

| I took Xena to the Doctor's office with me! I had a Doctor's appt and Xena has a Vet appt right afterwards, so I called the Doc's office and they said it was fine to bring her in as long as she was in a carrier. Austin, Texas does have some restaurants that will let you bring your Dog if you eat on the patio and they stay in the carrier. I think we're moving to a more friendly Dog world. |

| People can be such stinkers! It's not as if we don't understand about allergies and such! I wouldn't take a St. Bernard or a Cocker Spaniel in a grocery store. But what is the problem with a little bitty dog in your arms? I really think they have no, absolutely no reason to complain about a little dog in his/her carrier. Sylvia |
