| I Need Your Help!!!!! Parker has still been having potty training accidents. I thought he was only having one a day. Since I watch him like a hawk and he is only out running around if I can watch him very close. Well we got new carpet a few months ago through out the house. It is berber and very light in color. First let me say I'm a clean freak about stuff. My friend told me about some stuff you can get from wal-mart that is called urine gone. she said it comes with a black light and you can see where they have pee pee that you didnt catch. I wasnt really worried about using the black light because I cleaned up the pee pee very well. Some mistakes my hubby never knew about because he is less understanding than I. (haha). I sat and bald when I turned on the black night. Parker has been going every where and I dont know when. He would have just had to run in and do it and out within seconds. If he goes into another room, I'll call Parker and he comes right back by me. It never even left a spot or a stain to indicate that he did pee pee. My hubby freaked out told me I had to get rid of my dogs. Of course after he calmed down he said we will just have to watch Parker more. Maddie does great. She wont even potty in her cage, she waits. I know they say boys are worst. He has been fixed and everything. Anyway. He said we will work with him and see what happens. Well all weekend he have worked and worked and he will run in from outside and pee on the carpets before we can get to him. We have spent all weekend shampoo our carpets from head to toe. He runs into the room that we just shampoo and pee pee. Why is he doing this???? He wont even get off the deck outside, He keeps pee pee on it and pooin on it too. I took him Sunday to a vet to check to see if he had a bladder infection or something like that. He said he was perfectly fine and that if he is doing this he probably will always do it and he will have a continuous problem. Of course my hubby was there too. I dont think he is acting up because we got Maddie because he was been doing this for some time obviously. Hubby said I could keep Maddie since she is doing great with potty training but Parker had to go. It sicked me when I seen those spots with the black light. I mean a ton of them and to think we have all when down laying on the floor and never knew it. He did a ton in the hall way, living room, dining room and family room. I know you may be thinking we dont watch him, but honestly he we do. He does it within seconds. Of course when we would run into the other room and we would call for him he came right back. I never knew he was doing it. Now on Sunday, we would be watching him and he would look at us and do it right in front of us. I just dont get it.... I love this little guy to death and dont want him going to a new home, but I do understand my hubby. I've cried all weekend. My hubby said he feels really bad but those stains were terrible, which they were. You could not see them with the naked eye, but boy they showed up with the black light. Do you have any suggestions, my heart is breaking so bad!!!!!! Its weird because he does also pee pee on the pee pee pad, so I thought He was finally getting the hang of thing, He will also ring his bells at the door. but then I guess Is coming in a pee peeing???? Please, Please help!!! |

| I have two words for you. Belly bands. You need to keep a belly band on him at all times when in the house.

| I also thought Some of the stains could be from a sippy cup from my daughter or something like that, but we tested it. We put two things on the floor and let them dry to see. We put milk and clean white grape juice. NOthing showed up on the black light. I cant even think today at work!!! |

| Belly bands are good and maybe define him in an ex-pen with pee pads instead of giving him the run of the whole house. Don't give up on him! He's still a baby and will learn over time. Make a big deal out of it when he goes in the right places and don't punish him when he doesn't. When you see him peeing on the carpet pick him up and bring him outside. As for your fear of pee stains: Urine is actually kind of an anitseptic! While learning about first aid for horses we were taught to disinfect an open wound with urine as a first aid in the fields. |

| Parker doesnt have the run of the house. He is confined to an xpen w/ pee pads and just taken out when I can watch him. He get tons of praise when he goes outside or on the pee pads. He goes crazy with praise and he gets a cherrio. That what has been so bad. We really are doing all the right things. I promise. I'm not sure my hubby is as understanding on this issue as I am. So thats a problem too. When he does potty in the house we dont punish him. I just pick him up and take him outside. |

| Parker should not be able to have run of the house, period, until he is housebroken. So when you let him out of the x-pen, you either need to tether him to you with a leash or you need to do nothing else but follow him when he is walking around the house. As soon as you see him squat, take him outside. Cleaning your carpets is not enough. You need to be cleaning them with a urine neutralizer. Try Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle. You need to clean the pee area almost to saturation point, when there is an accident. You need to minimize the # of accidents parker has, or he is not going to learn where you want him to go. So you need to get him on a strict potty schedule of every hour on the hour. You need to go out with him every single time and you need to issue the potty command, whatever you decide that is. He should not play while outside and should not come in, until he has pottied. If he refuses to potty, you need to put him in the crate or x-pen for 10 -15minutes and take him outside again and try again, and repeat until he goes potty outside. It will be hard in the begining because it will consume a lot of your time. But it will get easier, when he understands the potty command and what is expected of him. You need to create more successes for him, then oppertunities to have accidents. The only way to do it is to never ever let him out of your sight. If he has a chance to go in the house, whether it takes him a second to go or longer, you are not watching him the way you should be watching him. |

| I used Urine out on the spots and let it dry overnight before we use the shampooer. I used black light after doing that and they are gone. I do however go outside with him everytime and he does pee. Even when I take him out in the grass he will run back up and pee on the deck. I only keep him out of his xpen when I can watch him completely..... really i do. I knew I shouldnt have posted this thread and ask for help, because everyone would assume I'm doing something wrong, but I'm really not. I have a timer set and he has to go out every 1/2 hour. He used the pee pads and will even ring the bell to go outside and potty. He will potty outside several time, and still come right back in and do it. I've had him fixed. I really do take care of my dogs and I really do the right thing for them. They can run in a split second into another room, I call for him and go after him, he comes right back. Its not like I let him out of my site for even 1minute I promise!!!!!!!!! That is why this was such a surprise. I'm upset with the comment about I need to create more success for him then the opportunites to have accidents. I create a very positive and he does have success I thought. You are acting like I just let him run wild around my house pissing everywhere. I dont. If anyone knows me they know how much of a clean freak I am and I over clean everything. The last things I would do is let my dog run wild and pee everywhere. That is why I just dont get this. I'm not trying to be crappy, but if you only knew all the stuff I do. I do it all by the book. I'm so concerned with my babies. from food, to toys, to everything. If we are in the living room, he is in the living room, if we are in the family room, he is in the family room, etc. Last edited by DENISE517; 06-26-2006 at 08:07 AM. |

| How about keeping him on a leash when you go out so that you can make him stay in the grass to avoid going on the deck? You can keep him on the leash, also when you come in the house, so that he does not run to another room to go potty, again. Keep him tied to you at all times until he can be more reliable. After a time, when he has demonstrated he understands not to go in the house, you can give him a little freedom. Otherwise you may have to resort to belly bands. And he may be marking his territory and I don't know how you are going to stop that. (That may take care of itself when he is more mature.) Don't worry, we know you are trying real hard and are doing everything right. We are just trying to give you more ideas and have you look at being more strict with Parker so that you can have success in housebreaking so that you don't have to find a new home for him. It's all good! |

| Belly Bands I have heard that belly bands work good for this kind of situation. I have never had to use them, but its worth a try. I know you keep everything spotless and how crazy you are about your dogs. I know you want to do whatever it takes to keep Parker. I have never seen anyone so crazy about their dogs. It about killed you not to get Maddie something the first week you had her. I think you got sneaky and did get her something "girly" before you were suppose to. I know you are going strictly by the book becasue when Parker came over to our house and went around the corner of the kitchen you were calling for him, so I know you dont let him out of your sight. Try the leash when outside and belly bands and see if that helps. Good luck and keep us informed. It will work out and he will learn and he and Maddie will stay best friends!!

| I completely understand your situation! We have a very stubborn male that has refused to become 100% potty trained. We did everything the right way too (took him out constantly, got up in the middle of the night to let him out, used positive reinforcement, etc). Well, he is 1.5 already and still having accidents. We always keep an eye on him but still we find them. These little guys are smart and know how to do it quickly so they don't get in trouble! I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. I just wanted to say that I am in the same boat as you. It has gotten better over time (finding his accidents much less) but never completely resolved itself. We use belly bands a lot now. Oh, and regarding the black light test...the first time we did that we were completely shocked at what we found! I suspect a lot of people who think thier dogs are potty trained would be very surprised at what they would find using the black light. These guys don't go that much so on some rugs it is hard to detect. Plus they go in the corners where you don't tend to walk or look at too closely. Try not to beat yourself up over it!!!

| Pee Post Oh and Denise, have you seen those Peeing Posts at Petsmart? That might be something for you to put outside in the yard. I dont know how well they work, but that might help with the deck thing. If hubby sees him not peeing on his deck then that may calm him down a bit too. He will see that he is learning better and may not worry about it so much. Jill
