I make bows to match my leash and vest harnesses and use a barettes. Of course, I throw in a few rubber bands so they can tie the hair first and then attaching the barettes is easy . . . | |

| I'm going to try that reward advice. Ziggy hardly lets me even brush him without a huge fight...he wiggles and bites like you wouldn't believe. Bath time is even worse...he uses his back legs to try to propel himself out of the sink like a kangaroo! It's hard to bathe him and hold on to him so he doesn't jump out...needless to say, I'm a soaking mess! He does seem to enjoy the blow dryer though. Katy's Mom, I'm so envious! Your little girl is a treasure to be so agreeable. And Lorin, lol, my hubby is the same way about bows. He's already told me not to plan on letting a groomer put bows in Ziggy's hair ...too sissy for his boy! Of course I will ignore his request. Karen |

| Karen, when you first start brushing, give a small treat (like a cheerio), then another after different steps (back legs...then treat....torso, then treat....front legs....etc! )They learn surprisingly fast , and then after awhile, if you want, you can spread the treats further and further out. Mine still don't like getting brushed, but it's not a battle, and they're ready for their treat at the end!

| Thanks, Jiggityjig...I'm going to try it. Poor baby, he had a bad experience when I took him to a groomer just to trim around his face. I insisted on being there to hold him and she was too rough. She used a wire brush on him and he screamed so said that's enough. Then I stupidly allowed her to trim his nails and she made one bleed! This woman has been in business for 25 years....she said they just have to get used to it. Needless to say, I will not go back to her. I remember Koko used to love his groomer but she retired. I'm scared to take him to any groomer now...especially if I can't be with him. |

| I get on the floor with them, with them between my legs. I brush them and that seems to relaxe them. while I straddle them so they could not get away, I was able to get the bands in there hair. When I put the bands in there hair I pinch the hair so the bands are off their head and is not to tight. If you do it often they get use to it. My dogs will now lay their head on the floor and just let me do it. Keep trying it will get easier.
