Camping My Asia is 12 weeks old and I like to go camping. I want to take her with me in my popup camper. My next trip is planed for mid-may and she can't go. (beach state park, no pets allowed ) But alot of other camp grounds do allow pets. Any advice? I don't want her crying or barking to keep other campers up. Oh and don't worry. Her grandpa is going to keep her that week and he can't wait. He has had rescued yorkies in the past and Asia was my b-day present from him on the condition that he gets to baby sit.

That is sad that you can't take her. The beach we go to her loves to have animals at the State Park. I had a neighbor tell me last year they were there one year and tornado warnings came up. She said dogs and humans all sweatin in the bathroom. She said it was a hoot. As a matter of fact it was at this campground that I really got a good look at a yorkie and decided I wanted one.

We also camp a lot during the summer- in fact our yorkies are the reason we bought a camper! We went on one vacation without them and decide the next time we went anywhere they were going with us! Most campgrounds are pretty pet friendly- if our babies aren't welcome, then we will take our business someplace where they are! I haven't had any problem with my dogs making a fuss while we are camping. We are with them almost all the time and if we do need to go somewhere they can't- then we just leave them inside the camper in their carriers. At first I was worried they would make a fuss when we left them, so I'd put them in their carriers, leave for about 5 minutes (trial run...) and sneak back to check their status.

I'm going with a camping group and made the reservation a long time ago ( before Asia). I'm not worryed about leaving her with my step-father, he will have her spoiled rotten by the time I get back. ( of course she already is) I think the beaches down here in Florida are still recovering from all the hurricanes. The CG think that pets will damage the dunes. I think the people do more damaged than pets. I'm going to try keeping her with me inside the camper while I do some work on it to get her use to it. The idea about trail runs in the crate for 5 minutes or so while in the yard sounds good. I have a exercise pen that I can take with me also. I just got it so she can play in the yard. I need to make a tarp to go over it. We have hawks in the neigborhood.

Less expensive... I bought the playpen without the top so I am going to take one of those plastic tableclothes with the felt backing and put it over the pen and just secure it with clothespens. I have lots of hawks and buzzards.

A friend gave me a playpen that they used while camping for thier Pom. Asia hates it and has already chewed a hole in the mesh side. I think the pen will give her more room to run and play so maybe she won't dislike it as much or chew it up.

We also have a metal exersice pen that we take when we camp. It comes in handy so they can play without getting their leads tangled up. I looked at them at Petco- they were about $75.00- I found this one at Tractor Farm Supply for $50.00. I think if you just get her use to the camper, she will be fine! Have fun with your pup an all your summer adventures!

orinskye has a good point- most all pet friendly campgrounds have areas where pets are not allowed to go (like the beach or the dunes, etc.) but pets are welcomed in your camp site and there is usually a "pet walk" area available.

The reservation they E-mailed me said in bold letters "NO PETS allowed in camping or cabin areas or on the beach." I told her when I called that I was going to bring along my pet rock. She said that was ok if it was well behaved and kept on a lease at all times. So I'm going to paint a rock and take it with me.
