We also camp a lot during the summer- in fact our yorkies are the reason we bought a camper! We went on one vacation without them and decide the next time we went anywhere they were going with us!
Most campgrounds are pretty pet friendly- if our babies aren't welcome, then we will take our business someplace where they are!
I haven't had any problem with my dogs making a fuss while we are camping. We are with them almost all the time and if we do need to go somewhere they can't- then we just leave them inside the camper in their carriers. At first I was worried they would make a fuss when we left them, so I'd put them in their carriers, leave for about 5 minutes (trial run...) and sneak back to check their status.
